Topic: Windows Lists Babyface as "2- RME Babyface" After Update

Hi. Finally updated to Windows 11. Learned immediately that I needed to update my original Babyface firmware and driver. However, now Windows sound settings shows the device as "2- RME Babyface". Anyone know how to change this to just RME Babyface, which is what it used be?

What is the setting of WDM device number in the Fireface Settings Dialog ?
You could try to set to zero.
I guess Windows is showing the number 2 for the 2 audio channels from Babyface when WDM number is 1 (1 stereo channel)

Well how many are technically supposed to be there? Before I got your reply, I saw a similar issue on a different forum that involved uninstalling the device from Device Manager, which I did. Reinstalled the driver after restart, and then checked WDM. It was set to 0. I changed it to 1. The "2-" is back, and also I have no inputs or outputs listed in Windows settings. ONLY the "Speakers Out" from the Babyface.
Has Windows 11 just completely screwed me?

Okay. Figured that part out. We're back to the proper amount of i/o in Windows settings. However, the "2-" remains. Pic link attached.

How is the device manager in Windows ?
Is there another audio device with number 1 ?
May be 1- Realtek onboard audio jadajada ?
If you disable onboard audio in the BIOS ? Possibly the Babyface remains as the only one without any number then ?

Haven't dug into the BIOS yet. What's weird is that it doesn't have the "2-" in Sound, video and game controllers in Device Manager. But in the Audio inputs and outputs section of Device Manager, it does. There are no other items listed in the Audio IO section

May be it's just a Windows thing and you have to adapt and forget about it.

Okay this is weird. In Device Manager I chose to Show Hidden Files. And there are duplicates of every IO for the Babyface, but they're grayed out and don't have the 2- in front of it. Is that some weird thing stuck in the registry?

I would disconnect the Babyface and do a cold reboot of the computer

Okay figured it out. Had to show the Hidden Items in Device Manager. Then under Sound, video and game controllers, uninstalled both instances of RME Babyface. That wiped out all of the IO under Audio Inputs and Outputs. Restarted my computer. After restart, plugged in the Babyface, then under the Babyface settings, changed WDM to 6. All is well now.

Writing this out for anyone who runs into a similar issue.

Thanks for talking this out with me, waedi
