Topic: FF802 + MacOS Sonoma - FF802 not recognized.

Hi,

I've recently gotten a M3 MacBook Pro on Sonoma 14.4.1, and I am having problems with the Fireface802 not being recognized.

The layout is simple enough. The 802 is connected to a Sonnettech Echo 20 which is connects to the MacBook via a USB-C/Thunderbolt cable.

I ran the installation of the 4.09(2) USB driver, allowed the system extension in Security and Privacy and upon reboot the 802 is not listed in the Sound Card section of Sonoma settings.

I attemped to run the FUT but while the 802 is seen it will not update.

How can I fix this?

Re: FF802 + MacOS Sonoma - FF802 not recognized.

What if you connect the FF802 directly to the Mac without this Sonnettech thing ?

Re: FF802 + MacOS Sonoma - FF802 not recognized.

If this is an older 802 and the firmware is also an older version, then it’s not compatible to the driver 4.09 and needs to be updated first. This is only possible with an installed kext driver. See here:

802 is not listed in the Sound Card section of Sonoma settings.

Check physical connection, as waedi already posted.

Not possible. Don't have a USB-C > B cable around.

Doesn't work.

According to the FUT tool these are the current versions:

USB - 13 > 20
DSP - 0 > 9
Firewire - 0 > 9
Class Compliant - 0 > 9

I've connected my 802 to my old Mac Pro and TotalMix will only launch when the firewire cable is connected. The moment I connect a USB cable TM will shut down.

You don’t have the USB driver installed on the old Mac I assume? There are different ones for FireWire and USB. What macOS version is on it? I suggest to install the USB driver first on this Mac. Then load the FUT and update the firmware. Your 802 has to be updated to make it work with the driver v 4.09 or 4.10 on your new Mac.
See here, it’s from the link I’ve posted before:
Attention: Fireface UFX / UCX / UC / 802 and Babyface requires a firmware update to at least version UFX: 361, UCX: 49, UC: 127, 802 : 17 (111), Babyface: 226 to enable the use of this DriverKit driver.

This Mac Pro is on Mojave. I don't see a USB driver available for this version.

Mojave is MacOS 10.14 therefore the 3223 driver seems to be the one to try :

That is the one I tried. The installer wouldn’t complete the installation.

I’m taking my work PC home tonight. Hopefully I can fix it with that.

Re: FF802 + MacOS Sonoma - FF802 not recognized.

Hopefully you have full administrator rights on this work PC for installing the driver. Apart from that it's a good idea to use any computer to perform the FUT.
Afterwards install the 410 driver on your Mac and it will work.

We’ll see tonight if it does.

The W11 USB driver worked and I was able to update the firmware. My Mac now sees it and can talk to it.

Thanks to everyone who made suggestions!

Glad to hear. I think the original Fireface 802 with both USB and FireWire / old firmware not ready for driverkit macOS drivers is one of the most complicated devices to setup. Now you’ve done it.
