Topic: Digiface Dante, good for me ?

Hello,

May be a new RME buyer wink

I have some videos products working on madi and Dante. I think of a digiface Dante for two purposes :
- record Dante audio in 96KHz
- use as spare for madi/Dante converter if my actual converter fail.

Is it the right hardware choice ?
can you advise me a reliable multitrack software easy to use (I only use it as recorder without any mods.) ?

The multitrack recording software : REAPER
It's free and unlimited in tracks count. Most stable multi platform and lightest lightweight software.

Other interfaces from RME has DuRec feature, onboard recording system. UCX ll and UFX lll for example.

Only free for 60d of evaluation, then you have to pay.

DURec only creates a multichannel wave file.
Its an option for more safety as backup recording in parallel to DAW recording (only available with UCX II, UFX II/III).

He wants/needs a software (DAW) to process the files.

If Windows: global record from DIGICheck software suite is a lightweight recording program.
Might be used as alternative only for the recording but not for processing the files.

I found a reaper software from Cockos with a $60 price . Are we talking about the same product?

if I'm not mistaken, no other card offers both Dante and DuRec...

Can someone confirm that it's possible to record multitrack session from Dante in 96KHz with this interface ?

        you could also try evaluation versions of other DAWs like e.g. Cubase which is robust and flexible.
        check the different product offerings, maybe it doesn't need to be the full version

to 2, yes

to 3, check manual ch4

64 channels Dante (AES67), 64 channels MADI
32 channels 96 kHz/24 bit record/playback Dante & MADI each
16 channels 192 kHz/24 bit record/playback Dante & MADI each

If you work with different sample rates, then check with RME whether Dante is similar to AVB, where you have to reconfigure all devices if you change the sample rate. This is not so good from a handling perspective.

In this regard, it could be that "good old" MADI might be better from an operational perspective, as the clock slaves can follow the clock. For higher sample rates than 48 kHz, use 96k frames.

Yes Reaper by Cockos.
The 60 is free of charge, without paying the demo version works forever without restrictions.
There is a small window you have to click off at every start of the program, that window has a period of 4 seconds, until it can be clicked off.
If you use the app commercially, you are kindly requested to pay 60 (kind of a donation)

Digiface Dante lets you record 32 input channels at 96kHz at the same time.

Tell me about a demo version for which you need to pay..
The point here was simply that reaper is not free of charge as you initially wrote.

It depends on his "business" whether he needs to buy either the discounted ($60) or the commercial license ($225) after the 60d of trial.

So it appears that Digiface Dante will be my answer. Good !

Price $60 or $225 : If I make money with a software, it seems normal to pay the programmer. My money may be better used than with our taxes !!!


with more details :
I intend to record live concerts. I want to be able to retrieve the FOH sources in Dante 96KHz and then mix them for video recording in 48KHz via our current converter (Dante to madi).
The Digiface Dante is intended to make a multi-channel recording in parallel with this installation. No treatment: it's a master for the producer if he wants to reissue the song later.

Any advices are welcome.
