Topic: Digiface Dante & RME - Distortion and Buzzing on MacOS

I've been struggling with an interface issue for a couple weeks and thought I could troubleshoot it on my own but alas, here I am.

THE ISSUE: Any audio I play from either computer of my two mac setup has pretty serious distortion. I used to occasionally deal with this but a system reboot or a reset of my Verto ferrofish would solve it. Now no matter what (I've updated everything on all the devices) I can't get the buzzing to go away. Sometimes when I first start my system up it's gone but then about 20-30 seconds later it shows up.

THE SETUP:

-Main Computer: 2019 MacPro - 256 gb ram - running Sonoma 14.5
-Second Computer: 2022 Mac Studio - 128 gb ram - also running Sonoma 14.5

-Digiface Dante connects the MacPro to the Mac Studio via USB 3.0

-Output of the Mac Studio (where I stream to pro tools for stemming the Logic Pro X sessions on my Mac Pro) goes through the Digiface into a Verto32 Ferrofish.

-Output of the Ferrofish goes into ADAT of my Apollo x6 and my studio monitors.

Any tips or thoughts?

Could you provide a drawing of your setup with a description of which type of links are between the components and which device is clock master?

The Apollo has to be set to sync to ADAT input in this system. For the Dante side, the clocking will be managed without any changes needed in most cases. You should look at the Dante Controller logs and see if there are any error shown, though.

Is the Mac Pro running DVS, or what is the scenario there?

Re: Digiface Dante & RME - Distortion and Buzzing on MacOS

Thanks Ramses and Jeff for the quick responses.

Computer 1 (Mac Pro) is my clock master. I've attached my Dante Controller screen with device info for you to see that.

Computer 2 (Mac Studio) is running DVS.

My Apollo is already set to ADAT sync. The third image is my routing. (The Mac Pro connects to the Digiface and powers it by USB 3.0.)

Re: Digiface Dante & RME - Distortion and Buzzing on MacOS

Thanks.
Looks somehow strange to me, for example
- type of connection between 1st and 2nd Apple with the Digiface Dante in between
- the way back from Apollo to 1st apple, how can 1st apple be clock master and slave?

Could you kindly add information what type of connection this is between all devices? USB3, LAN, ADAT, ...
And what device is the clock master in the "digital domain"?
