Topic: Digiface Dante USB Ethernet not working in Sonoma

Hello,
I'm new to RME product.
So I'm very confused which drivers I should install to work with dante controller.
I installed driver_usbdk_mac_412 and upgrade firmware to V57.
But Dante USB Ethernet doensn't show up in Network setting in Sonoma.
Perhaps this should be done before working with dante controller?

on the PDF manul page27, it says

'Therefore the Digiface Dante also includes the functionality of a USB Ethernet adapter, whose
driver is installed together with the MADIface series one. This device can be used directly for the
Dante Controller. No cable needed, two network ports stay free.'

What do I need to do go on?
I don't see any device lists in the dante controller too

You need to install netifc:

https://www.rme-audio.de/downloads/rme_netifc_mac.zip

The zip includes a readme with more details.

Re: Digiface Dante USB Ethernet not working in Sonoma

I installed that too. (I see the 'USB 10/100/1000 LAN' in the network setting, but it's disconnected and grayed out)
And selected 'bridge9999' in the primary interface as the reame guided.
But it doesn't show up in the Dante controller yet.

What do I need to from now on?

Thanks,
Heejong

Re: Digiface Dante USB Ethernet not working in Sonoma

The combined installer was for previous Mac OSX systems. Since Mac OS 11 and up. Separate usb driver and network driver need to be installed. (RME Mac OS11 and up USB driver, and RME netifc driver)

As the 'Bridge9999' is a virtual adaptor it is not visible in the standard network settings section on your Mac.
But should work when selected in Dante Controller as your primary interface.

Ensure you have another Dante device plugged into your Digiface Dante for Dante controller to show anything.

When I connect with Mac mini and Digiface dante with ethernet cable, digiface dante shows up in the controller.
(with packer error lit)
But when it's connected only by USB ethernet adapter, It doesn't show up in the Dante controller.
If the another dante device need to be connected to show up, why does it show up when digiface dante is connected to Macmini with ethernet cable? Perhaps, I'm misunderstanding about the concept of Dante?

Why an adapter ?
Didn't you connect the interface with a USB cable directly to the Mac ?

Re: Digiface Dante USB Ethernet not working in Sonoma

I meant connect by USB3 cable only. (Then Digiface Dante works as USB ethernet adapter by the manual)
It supposed to be showed up in the Dante controller if the drivers are installed properly, right?

To my understanding the controller shows connected gear and their audio channels.
Why should the interface show up in the controller app ? It's only an interface with nothing to control.

Isn't the digiface dante connected gear istself? Perhaps, I'm totally misunderstanding something here now.
I'm gonna connect it with YAmaha XMV82080 amp and Unity running PC machine which are already connected to network switch (Network Hub).
Before bring it to the venue, I'm testing Macmini+digiface dante only at home studio.
Do you mean before connecting other dante gear (XMV8280 amp and PC's), dante controller wouldn't show digiface dante in the device list?
If it's so, Why does it show up when I connect digiface dante and MacMini with ethernet calbe?
In the PDF manual p27, It says 'This device can be used directly for the dante software without connecting with ethernet cable'.
So I thought the USB connection didn't go as it's supposed to.Am I wrong?

Thanks for replying, waedi

Re: Digiface Dante USB Ethernet not working in Sonoma

You need to have something (either a Dante device or a network cable from the computer NIC) connected to one of the DF Dante network ports. Without that, nothing will show up in the Dante Controller.

Thanks,
Maybe I misunderstood the explanation on page 27 of the manual: ‘Therefore, the Digiface Dante also includes the functionality of a USB Ethernet adapter, whose driver is installed together with the MADIface series driver. This device can be used directly with the Dante Controller. No cable is needed, and the two network ports remain free.

So an Ethernet cable needs to be connected to the Mac mini for the Digiface Dante to work as a Dante device. I still don’t understand what the last two sentences of their manual mean, though.

Re: Digiface Dante USB Ethernet not working in Sonoma

With netifc installed you can access the Dante network and Dante controller without 'extra ethernet cable connected to the Mac Mini'. But the point is that there exists no Dante network as long as no other device is connected to the Digiface Dante. So the Dante Controller will not show anything until you either connect a second Dante device to the DF Dante, or at least an ethernet cable that is connected to whatever active network. In that case there is still no Dante network (no other Dante device listed) but at least the Dante Controller starts working.

This is not RME, it is the way Dante works.
