Topic: Help Me Understand Routing and Effects with Loopback

Basic Routing

I use a Sennheiser HME 27 headset to run webinars in Microsoft Teams. My headset is connected to Mic 12 and Phones 1 on my UFX II interface. Since Teams only detects Hardware Inputs 1 and 2, I route my microphone audio to Hardware Outputs 1 and 2 (labeled as Main) and then enable Loopback on the Main output to send the signal to Hardware Inputs 1 and 2. This setup works well.

First question: In this submix, should I set the faders for both Mic 12 and Main to 0 dB?

Effects

I apply some audio effects using TotalMix FX, including low-cut, equalization, and compression on my microphone signal. I have enabled the "EQ+D For Record" option, and I can hear these effects clearly when monitoring through my headphones. Everything sounds great on my end.

However, after reading through the UFX II manual, I’m concerned about whether my audience in Teams can hear these effects. According to Section 27.6 Recording a Submix - Loopback:

"The block diagram also shows why with activated Loopback all PEQs etc. of the Hardware Output are now within the record path. With Loopback active, PEQ and Dyn of the input are not in the record path, only in the monitoring path, even when the Option DSP – EQ+D for Record is activated."

Second question: Does this mean that my Teams audience will not hear the effects that I hear in my headphones?

Re: Help Me Understand Routing and Effects with Loopback

Deactivate EQ+D for recording you don't need that as you replace the recording path with the Loopback on that particular channel
and the Loopback is a monitoring submix including all FX given in the input channel.
If you can hear the FX, and Loopback this channel, your audience will hear the fx too.

Interesting. Are there any downsides to leaving "EQ+D For Record" activated?

Good question. Answer : not really, it uses a little processing power from the computer, but thats neglible.
Just keep it in mind when you want to record something.

Re: Help Me Understand Routing and Effects with Loopback

Thank you for your assistance, everyone. It's greatly appreciated!

After considering your suggestions, I conducted some experiments by recording screen captures using OBS. As expected, without enabling Loopback on the Main output in TotalMix FX, OBS failed to detect any audio signal. However, once I enabled Loopback, the recordings functioned as intended.

I confirmed that disabling the "EQ+D For Record" option in TotalMix FX had no impact on whether the EQ and dynamics settings were applied or "printed" to the recordings. This finding aligns with what waedi had mentioned earlier.

I want to express my gratitude for helping me understand this concept and clarifying my initial misconception.
