Topic: Babyface Pro FS dynamics - compressor in DSP?

Hi,

yesterday I was using BFProFS for the first time and was surprised there are no compressors.

I mean are they THAT demanding on the DSP?

My usage with 3 input eqs 2 output eqs and reverb was somewhere about 55% on the DSP meter @ 96k.

I would be happy even for a couple of compressors on some of the input channels. And would prefer using sw reverb and other non time critical fx, if that would help.

The interface sounds good as expected from FS.

Thanks.

FYI, the reverb and delay are not on the DSP but calculated by the host computer. That is possible because they don't need zero latency like the eq.
There is no DSP chip afaik, the eq are on the fpga.
Bigger interfaces with FX have DSP. Also has to do with the fact our Babyface is bus powered.

Re: Babyface Pro FS dynamics - compressor in DSP?

hi,

good to know reverb/delay are not computed on the device and makes sense

that must mean there is not much processing power left in the FPGA when 5 eq's at 96k uses 55% of it's DSP allocation

still would be curious how many compressors one could get in there*

imagining funky clean strat, sounds amazing direct with some eq, but missing compression obviously

same for vocal or experimental sounds of physical objects

*have ADI-2 DAC FS, and want some useful inputs for smaller recording sessions, i don't like UCX II, because it has only 6 outputs + HP, then I would rather get Madiface XT II, to have useful amount of outputs, when working with multichannel speaker setups
