Topic: UCX II - Standalone, Setups and Factory

Hi

This topic is related to Standalone Mode usage with CC Mode off, I love it and day after day I prefer to use it rather than through OS/TM or DAW but IMHO there is possible changes via Firmware that can improve the experience.

Quoting chapter 23.3 Store / Load Setups at the Unit

After hitting the key SETUP/REV, the encoder gives access to the subpage Load/Store all Set-
tings. First select the preferred memory slot, then the desired process (load or store). The
load/store process is completed by pushing the encoder for more than one second.

The UCX II has six memory slots for free usage. Three fixed slots offer convenient and quick reset
and configuration of the unit:

Factory. Sets the unit into factory default state.

Ok, very useful option but Factory do not clear stored Setups, I don't know if decided by RME and agree but adding an option like Factory + Setups would be better, and adding (apart from the already existing Load and Store) options like Clear and Copy to via SETUP/REV→Load/Store/Clear all Settings→Setup X ... would be perfect!

it is possible RME?

AD/DA. Configures an ADAT analog to digital and vice versa converter (8 analog I/Os).

Clear Mix. Performs a Total Reset of TotalMix FX.

BTW, AD/DA and Clear Mix options disappear when UCX2 is online and reappear when offline, Is this normal or are they options designed for IPAD/CC Mode?

Quoting chapter 23.4 Storing Setups from the Computer

Setups can be loaded into the unit from the computer. As the Setups are usually generated at the
computer the final step of transmission offers a convenient workflow. In TotalMix FX use Options
/ Store current state into device to select the desired storage place (Setup) within the unit.

BTW, would it be possible to add the above Setups configuration options in TotalMix? IMHO perfect to manage the 6 memory slots at the UCXII.

Thanks

Hola tonpalt, ¿cómo estás? Ahora he encontrado algo de tiempo para analizar tus sugerencias.

If my Spanish was not well enough, complain to Google :-)

That's what I call a good example of "defensive programming," protecting the user from making a stupid mistake.
"Gone is gone" is just too drastic. After all, user configurations serve a purpose.
And if they don't, they don't interfere with the system's operation either.

Just imagine you're on the go, with no access to your computer, or it's broken, and you're entirely dependent on the saved configurations in stand-alone mode. Incorrect operation could become extremely problematic if the factory settings deleted everything.

Perhaps the user just wants to build a new configuration based on factory settings via the display. That should be possible without erasing everything.

Considering that a TM FX configuration can sometimes become highly complex, it might take hours to restore everything via display.

If you want to delete everything, just load the factory settings and save them into the six user slots. That way, everything is erased. It’s a straightforward solution without being overly complicated and without requiring much time.
Compared to a quick total wipe and loss, which would obviously create far bigger problems.

Sorry, I do not get your point, what is missing in TotalMix FX?
Do you mean the two mentioned points
— routing analog to digital and vice versa and
— reset mix?

Are you aware of, that there are already several options to reset TotalMix FX (see screenshot below)?

Regarding routing from analog to digital and vice versa. There are two easy ways:

1) In submix mode it doesn't take long to create a routing from analog to digital and vice versa.
Just select an HW output and then set the corresponding faders of HW inputs and SW playbacks to 0dB.

2) It is possible to select this setup in stand-alone mode and to take it over in TotalMix FX.
You only need to connect the interface to the computer and then TotalMix FX will detect, that the config has changed
and ask you which configuration you want to take over, the one from the device or last settings from TM FX.
After that you can save this as
- either snapshot (only for the routing part)
- or as workspace (complete settings and window positions)
- and even additionally to a Workspace Quick Select Slot (1..30) where Slot 1-8 allow quick recovery by ALT-1 .. ALT-8

Look, how easy it is to take over the default routing from the device into TotalMix FX.

First of all make sure, that you have the proper TM FX settings (F2) for device handling.
After disconnecting, resetting, reconnection you do not want, that TM FX overwrites the device with its last settings.
I also performed a Total Reset of TM FX so that all channels get the default size/settings.

Then disconnect device from USB, reset device with A2D, D2A routing and reconnect it to USB.
Then you see this popup.
Select to use the devices settings, by this you take over the default routing (from stand-alone mode) into TM FX:

Here one example, Submix ADAT1/2 out, where you can see, that taking over the routing worked.

Does not take longer than 3 minutes if you know what has to be done.
Its quite easy and straightforward if you know the gory details.

As a side note, if I may give you another recommendation. I do not use such preconfigured routings anymore.
Why? It contains too much stuff that you usually do not need, and then you lose the overview
when checking configs in matrix mode.

On my last complete rebuild of the environment with two Lexicon PCM as external FX I started at zero.
Described here in two forum posts:
https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.php?pid=192400
https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.php?pid=192161

In matrix mode, I deleted all routings in the matrix. Then in submix mode, I implemented only the required routings.
Gives you much more overview about your routing and in matrix mode it is then much easier to control the settings.

Often, there is not really much, that you require for monitoring via monitors and headphones.
