Topic: Feature request: ability to always see main volume on UFX etc. screen

The subject says it all. It would be great to have one view of the UFX screen that always has the Main Volume number visible. I feel safe when I can see that I'm listening at the same level when mastering or referencing tracks or even just when enjoying music, and it would be nice to avoid having to turn the encoder or double-tap the dim switch on the ARC-USB to achieve this.

Display shows volume of Main Out in the status bar:

Check TM FX Preferences, that restoring a snapshot sets also the volume.
Then you only have to tap a button on the ARC USB once.

Alternatively: move the encoder of ARC USB only a little bit then you see the volume of main out
not only in the status bar of the display but also in big letters on the display.

Other alternative: use Workspace Quick select and restore the first 8 workspaces (of 32) with a sane default volume
using the key combination ALT-1..8.

I'm very aware of this. I'm sorry if my post wasn't clear enough in some way, I supposed it was pretty obvious that large numbers were requested.

I've deliberately set Totalmix to not recall volume, as I've had too many bad experiences with the interface suddenly blasting full scale into my speakers.

This is what I currently am doing but would like to avoid. It's quite a flow-breaker when working, when the number could simply be visible in big numbers in the corner of my eye at all times.

So how would this work when working in a DAW that has lots of key commands? Would I always have to go back to Totalmix to preform this key command?

These are all workarounds when the original idea and request was for something else. It's purely a user experience matter. Something that I'm sure a lot of people would like to have as an option.

Seems to be Windows only, sadly.

Re: Feature request: ability to always see main volume on UFX etc. screen

But if you actually work in the DAW, don't you know your volume settings?

Another solution: monitor controller and a knob.

Expensive solution but maybe worth if you should have thought about the purchase ..
Get ADI-2 Pro FS R BE, because it remembers the volume settings and displays it.

I only mention it because it also offers other useful features, so .. don't see it only in the context of volume.

What I do not understand is, that you had bad experience with volume settings.
Of course you should set the volume in all snapshots of a workspace to the same start level.
But this can be organized by proper configuration.

Anyway .. maybe RME implements something like that, maybe an additional screen.
Only wanted to make some proposals.

And sorry, I just wanted to be sure that you didn't overlook the volume in the status bar.

+1

I completely agree to that feature request.
It would be very useful.
I rarely need the tiny meters view on the interface and displaying dB continuously would be much more useful for me.
Ideally even with a dark mode option with black background, as the white might be too bright at night times.

As the app topic came up: For Mac there is this very good control pilot app which can show your volume.

yes to big volume letters on black background,

ADI series i'm using now has it all and is overall very convenient to use,

waiting for multiple of these kind of practical updates on interfaces with tmfx before i buy one

Re: Feature request: ability to always see main volume on UFX etc. screen

Btw, not that it fixes the small numbers on UFX, but could you use ADI-2/4 PRO SE as your listening output, using it's input of course after the mastering chain, AND using any of UFX outputs to feed the mastering chain?

You could also move the ADI shelf much closer to you.

This would give you quick volume knob access AND large output volume numbers until the feature is provided for UFX.

You could also do this and many many other things, with Control Pilot. https://felixrost.de/display-control-automate-totalmix/
