Topic: Babyface getting "stuck" on a note and playing it non stop

Hello everyone,

I have an old RME Babyface snow edition (not Pro). Many times there are some operations that cause the Babyface to output a very small part of a song I listened to a few minutes ago, in a loop, for example:
1. When I quit Cubase, it will (sometimes) play a part of a song I listened to on Youtube half an hour ago.
2. When I switch output device, for example from Speakers to Voicemeter input

It just plays that 50ms of a part in a song I listened to, in a loop, and the only way I know to stop this, is to disconnect the Babyface cable and reconnect.

I've no idea if it's software related, or hardware. Does anyone know what I can do to solve it?

Thanks in advance

How about some details about your setup?

Operating system and version.
Version of RME driver and firmware.
Which Cubase version?
Which driver is loaded in Cubase?

How long do you run this setup and since when did the issues start?

Babyface can't play music from self.
What you hear always is just transmitted from somewhere.
In your case from the computer.
You have been listening this Youtube piece thru Cubase ?
May be a echo plugin is keeping echoing stuff and by mistake is routed to a playback channel instead of shutdown together with Cubase ?

For half an hour ... ?! Or sometimes playing a note non-stop?

I would only start guessing when more information about the specific setup is available and the problem is more clearly defined.
A video showing the sound looping would be interesting.

But now I would 1st wait for more information ... when problems started, OS, software / driver versions ...

Sure, apologies for not giving this info earlier.
I'm on Windows 11.

RME details:

Driver date: 16.03.22
Driver version: 1.22.1
Hardware revision: 223

Cubase version: 13, driver in Cubase: ASIO Fireface USB

I've just recently upgraded Cubase from version 11 to 13, but the issue started probably two years ago, and I don't think is related to Cubase specifically. It happens a lot when I switch my "Output device" in Windows 11 from Speakers, to VoiceMeeter Input.

VoiceMeeter is just a free software for recording playback that's played in Chrome for example.

Two years ago, I didn't have that VoiceMeeter software, then I noticed that sometimes when quitting Cubase 11, Youtube songs (around 50ms from a song) were suddenly looping like I described.

Should I share more info?

Thanks a lot in advance!

No, I've been listening to this piece either on Chrome (youtube), or on TIDAL (an app similar to spotify).
No I don't have any echo plugin, and the effect of that part of the song being stuck doesn't sound like an echo, it sounds like a bug/issue.

Also please note, that issue also happens when switching output device on Windows, not just when quitting Cubase.

Thanks

Sounds to me as if the problem is related to VoiceMeeter.
Sorry, I do not know this plugin, but ..
Do the issues occur if you are not using VoiceMeeter at all and also do not use it in Windows Sound as default sound device?
Maybe you should better contact VoiceMeeter support.

Yes, as I said the issues started long before I downloaded that VoiceMeeter software. I just gave it as an example.

Oh, I just remembered! A few days ago, I had a Zoom class (using the Zoom Windows app). Then after the meeting ended - I went to Chrome to listen to a song on Youtube - and then every time I pressed Play, the song playedback along with 50ms sound of my teacher from that Zoom meeting speaking (again it was in a loop)

Isn't this super weird? I was hoping that somehow it's a common issue.

Is there anything else I can try? I don't think contacting VoiceMeeter makes a lot of sense when this happens in other scenarios as well

Thanks again in advance
