Topic: Mac Studio + PS5 to RME ADI-2 DAC FS

Hi guys. My name is David and I am new to your audiophile world and trying to figure out the best method of connecting a Mac Studio + PlayStation 5 to my RME ADI-2 DAC fs.

I want to preserve the audio quality as much as I can. It looks like I need a specialized USB 2.0 splitter that preserves the audio quality. To connect the PS5 to the ADI-2 DAC I would need to connect to the same USB connection at the back.

I bought a custom USB cable that forces UAC1 mode for connecting to a PS5: https://jdslabs.com/product/usb-audio-c … ack-cable/

What ever splitter I get I will be mounting it under a desk like my ADI-2 DAC. Can you guys recommend some USB 2.0 splitters that retain the audio quality. I don’t play audio sources both at the same. The switcher could be manual or auto or passive.

1) What do you guys recommend for a USB 2.0 audio splitter that could be mounted under the desk?
2) Does the ADI-2 DAC have the capability of downgrading the PS5 audio down to UAC1, or should I just use the cable that I already referenced above?

Thanks in advanced for any help.

David

Re: Mac Studio + PS5 to RME ADI-2 DAC FS

Instead of taking the hustle of double-USB connection and all it‘s possible quirks:

• If your TV set the PS5 might be connected to has an Optical out, use this one for ADI-2.
The TV will serve as as USB to Optical converter.

• Or use an HDMI audio extractor like this one for the same purpose.

Make sure PS5 sends PCM audio, as ADI-2 can‘t decode Dolby Digital.

In both configurations you can run both, PS5+TV, and Mac Studio at the same time, and select the audio source between USB and Optical at ADI-2.

Re: Mac Studio + PS5 to RME ADI-2 DAC FS

Thanks for responding KaiS.

No TV’s here so no optical. I am using a Asus ProArt monitor so I’ve only got the following connections…
- HDMI (v2.1) Used by PS5 visuals.
- HDMI (v2.0)
- HDMI (v2.0)
- DisplayPort 1.4 Used by Mac Studio.
- Thunderbolt™ 3
- USB-A

In addition to the cable above that I linked, I also have a USB-C to Coaxial Cable that might work, but I’ll have to figure out how to attach the two cables so that UAC1 Fallback is used to work with the PS5. PS5 only supports UAC1. So there lies the dilemma. Here’s the link to the other cable that I have: https://www.amazon.com/coaxial-Digital- … SHBSL?th=1

Currently I have 2 DAC/Amps. The RME is connected to the Mac Studio and a JDS Atom DAC/Amp 2 is connected to the PS5 via the specialized UAC1 Fallback Class 1 cable: https://jdslabs.com/product/usb-audio-c … ack-cable/

The goal is to have one DAC/Amps (ADI-2) connected to both the PS5 and the Mac Studio.

Re: Mac Studio + PS5 to RME ADI-2 DAC FS

If the USB to Coax won’t work, HDMI audio extractor is the way to go.
PS5 can send audio to HDMI.
