Topic: Fireface UCX adding unwanted SPDIF volume to reamping> clipping issues

Hello all,

I am actualy having an issue while reamping a DI track through a SPDIF loop on a Kemper Amp. Out of the DAW the DI track volume instead being neutral hits the Kemper input harded than while it was recorded.
I Think it has something to do with a setting i did wrong in TotalMix FX but i can't find what...

I cannot set up my DI track output other than " SPDIF L+R ". I wonder if it could cause the track to send a double mono to the KPA thus increasing the volume.

I've made two screenshots, in case someone sees something wrong :

Here are some more info on the process :

I've recorded a riff in Di / Stack mode through spdif hooked to my RME fireface UCX.

While recording the riff, the KPA input led is mainly green, sometimes yellow, and some tiny soft red blinks happen from time to time... (I was told red blinks were ok because KPA has tons of headroom, wasn't it ?)

The KPA " DI side " goes to my DAW in a mono track with input " Spdif LEFT IN ".
The KPA " Stack side " goes to my DAW in a mono track with input " Spdif RIGHT IN ".

Those 2 tracks knobs, sliders and settings remains all untouched and neutral, no EFX, no plugins nothing.

I set my DI track output to SPDIF OUT L+R and when i reamp using that freshly recorded DI track, the KPA input led goes seriously red, like static red quite often, it's totaly clipping !

The Kemper Clean / Disto / Reamp sens and various settings are all neutral or at 0...

Thanks for your help

The main out is set to -29,7 that is ok.
But the SPDIF output is set to full power 0,0 it goes to the Kemper, try just lower this somewhere -20 I would try.

Re: Fireface UCX adding unwanted SPDIF volume to reamping> clipping issues

Thanks for the hint !

I tried that and while at -20 it stops the clipping issue, there is barely any overdrive left in the amp sound.
Moving this value up or down, either increase or decrease the amount of gain received by the simulated amp. How to find the sweet spot by ears to get the exact original sound ?
This is realy the hard part ! That amp setting has been carefuly tweaked to have the wanted amount of saturation and color, I don't want to alter the gain received. It would spoil and change the sound.

In fact, sending a DI track should carry the same volume and gain i had while playing the riff.
This is why i am trying to find a solution to make this totaly transparent.

Yes the best way is to listen by ear and adjust the level manually.
