Topic: Routing XLR input to Adat output

Hi! I have a Babyface Pro usb interface, and I have recently added a Focusrite Scarlett Octopre through Adat. I am thinking about getting a hardware compressor like the KT76, but I was wondering about the routing needed.

I have an understanding that the XLR preamp of the Babyface is better than the preamps in the Focusrite Octopre, and was wondering if there's a way to connect my mic via the XLR in the Babyface -> output via Octopre adat output -> input KT76 compressor -> Babyface Line in?

Is this possible, or even necessary? Or should I rather just use the preamps of the Octopre or maybe buy an external mic preamp instead?

Sorry if the question seems stupid, this whole outboard routing is a bit new to me.

Usually in the DAW you can define external FX and need to tell the inputs and outputs.
Some DAW might support something like a test signal to calculate the latency for the latency compensation.

For reverb and delay you need to bypass the FX to let the 100% dry signal through, otherwise you get wrong / too high values for the latency calculation. For a compressor should not matter but I would suggest to bypass also the compresser to get only the dry signal otherwise, keep default settings without altering the signal too much.

In TotalMix FX select the HW output in submix mode.
Then route the Audio signal coming from PC (you find it in TM FX in the middle row, sw playbacks)
and raise the fader to 0 dB.

It would be beneficial at this point to understand TM FX routing and the relationship between SW playbacks and HW outputs.

Incoming audio from the HW inputs should be clear, you get an audio signal in, you see it under HW inputs and thus in the DAW ...
