Topic: What RME hardware should I get?

Hi,

I am running Windows 11 with Bitwig and want to run outputs from multiple synths directly into the DAW. I currently have a RME ADI-2 DAC fs for audio output and Digital MPA II for AD going into the ADI-2 it for 2 audio in. Questions:

What is the best RME device setup to get 32 in, 2 out?

Is it possible to supplement the ADI-2, or should I go with a completely new setup? I love the sound of the ADI-2 D to As.

This is studio use only. PC setup is

- ASUS PRIME Z790-P WIFI - PCIe 5.0, 3x M.2, 2.5GbE/WiFi 6
- Intel Core i9 13900K, Raptor Lake, 24 Cores, 32 Threads, 3.0GHz Base, 5.8GHz Turbo, 125W
- 96GB (2x48GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR5 5600MHz CAS40
- 8GB ASUS GeForce RTX 4060 DUAL OC, 3072 Cores, 2505MHz Boost,
- 1TB Corsair MP600 PRO NH NVMe PCIe 4.0, 7000MB/s Read, 5700MB/s Write, 870K
- 4TB Corsair MP600 PRO NH NVMe PCIe 4.0, 7000MB/s Read, 6500MB/s Write, 1000K

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,

Scott

Re: What RME hardware should I get?

Hi Scott,

Recording interface:
- UFX III (USB3, 1 MADI bus) or
- HDSPe MADI FX (PCIe, 3 MADI buses)

Converter:
- M-32 AD Pro II (pure AD converter) or
- 2x M-1620 Pro (has AD and DA) (*)
(*) although you say you do not need D/A it might have the advantage to distribute two devices to your synths in the room to keep analog cables short and if you want to connect external FX (EQ, Compressor, …) then AD and DA will be nice to have.

The ADI-2 DAC/Pro * you can connect for monitoring via
- AES to HDSPe MADI FX or
- ADAT or AES to UFX III

You may want to add ARC USB to your PC for remote controlling TM FX control room
- UFX III: either connect to UFX III or PC
- HDSPe MADI FX: connect to PC

BR Ramses - UFX III, 12Mic, XTC, ADI-2 Pro FS R BE, RayDAT, X10SRi-F, E5-1680v4, Win10Pro22H2, Cub14

Re: What RME hardware should I get?

Thank you for replying!

Will those options let me get 24bit 96khz for all channels?

Any latency difference between the UFX III and HDSPe options?

Yes, and the connected equipment converters need to support also 96kHz24bit.

Somewhere in the forum recently it was stated the HDSPe AIO Pro is the fastest interface in the product catalog.

As the UFXlll is the flagship model it will have best times latency and the Madi card will be very close if not a bit faster.
The difference is neglibigle.

Re: What RME hardware should I get?

That's really helpful - thank you. I think the UFX III is my preference, but I need to consider the converter options some more.
