Topic: Adi-2 Pro FS R - S/PDIF to Active Monitors

Good morning,

I'm thinking about getting an ADI-2 Pro FS R as AD/DA Converter in addition to my Fireface 802. The plan is to hook up it up via AES and then go through my Hardware mastering chain with the XLR Analog ins/outs. As I understand I can monitor the processed incoming signal with Headphones, so the ADI-2 makes a great headphone preamp for critical listening.

Now the question is, if I can use it as a monitor Controller at the same time when I connect my Neumann KH150's via S/PDIF. As far as I understand it from the manual the processed incoming analog signal will be sent to all digital  outputs. But how to control the monitor volume? Is it possible to assign the main volume knob to S/PDIF out?

Thanks for your help!

You can switch between AES (ADI-2 Pro) and SPDIF (Neumann) by using TM FX.
Use two different TM FX Snapshots.
One using AES as "Main Out", the other using SPDIF (for Neumann).
This way you can control Main Outs volume using ARC USB, one time for everything connected to ADI-2 Pro or for the Neumanns.

Thank you for the quick answer. I was thinking about TM, but then in my understanding TM will not control the SPDIF out of the ADI-2 when the 802 is my main Interface runnning TM. I might be wrong, though.

As the ADI-2 Pro has two different digital inputs, which you can route to different digital outputs,
you can also control this via TM FX. You have to experiment. Here how I did it.

Re: Adi-2 Pro FS R - S/PDIF to Active Monitors

Thank you for the detailed article. I think I get it now. Would make sense to buy an ARC USB too. Or get the ADI 2/4. The balanced additional outputs 3/4 would be great for the hardware chain. Then hook the speakers up on analog 1/2. That would make things easier. But that's a bigger investment. I'll have a think. Thanks for now!
