Topic: Fiber Transceivers

Has anyone used these with cat5 cable?

Re: Fiber Transceivers

You mean - could you connect a MADI-Signal (SC-Plug Fiber) to a optical-cat-transceiver and send MADI over CAT? No, that wouldn't work. MADI has been developed to transport samples, not data packets - and the whole protocol had to follow this function. A transceiver expects some standard 10/100/1000base-tx, but MADI is 125 MBit (100 MBit for 64 Channels*(sample+some data)+some clock  + 25 MBit for redundancy)) - totally different from any ethernet.

Re: Fiber Transceivers

it could work if you change the format of the datas. With ethernet the consideration of ethersound. But it will cost a lot.

With optical, the best system is optocore (look at www.optocore.de). It allow 256 audio channel with 3 composite video channels, 32 RS485 lines. It costs a lot but it's fully fonctionnal.
