Topic: Digi9652

Hi,

I am using the Multiface II and Cardbus with my Dell laptop, and recently built a very fast Gigastudio 3 computer using a Digi9652 card that I purchased used. After setting everything up the sound coming out of the Digi9652 was similar to white noise and very loud. I called Jeff, who provides support in the USA, and he was not able to figure out what was wrong, but was extremely helpful.

Eventually I contacted the original owner of the Digi9652 and he was stumped at first, then did some research and discovered that there is an eprom on the board which configures it for a Mac or Windows computer. Most of you probably knew that was the case but I did not. I would assume the sound problem is caused by having the M52 eprom installed in the card, but having the card in a Windows XP computer. Would that seem to be true?

I found the chips listed at [q]http://www.rme-audio.com/english/access … ALL_SERIES[/q] but the part number listing confuses me. W52-2 is listed twice, and has a description of ?Eprom M52 board rev. 1.5 or up? and ?Eprom W52 board rev. 1.5 or up?. Does that mean that both eproms are included in the same purchase? I do not understand what ?Eprom M52 board? versus ?Eprom W52 board? means, as there does not seem to be anything marked on the board, but the eprom is an M52. I assume I want to buy the W52-2 part, as it should include the W52 chip.

Would someone please help me? cool

Precisely. This card needs different EPROMS for the two platforms.

No. There seems to be a typo on this (old) page. It should be M52 and W52.

I do not understand what ?Eprom M52 board? versus ?Eprom W52 board? means,

Nothing. It is e.g. "EPROM M52 (for) board revision 1.5", "board referring to the card as such.

Yes.

Re: Digi9652

Daniel,

Thank you so much for the response. When I search the Internet trying to find the W52 chip, the few places I find seem to have copied the information from the RME site or have something different. I am very confused.

Here are a number of links:

http://www.bananas.com/productdetail.asp/pid_3967
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/3 … _rev_.html
http://www.compumusic.com/i440.htm
http://www.jrrshop.com/product_info.php … ts_id=1499

Is W52G16PC the correct part number? The photo on the RME site, and the photo on most of the other sites, shows the larger "W52 G" chip in the middle. I am assuming the "W52 G" is for the earlier 1.1 version boards, but in my case I want the smaller W52. Most of the part numbers listed on these other sited have the "G" in the part number, so again I am confused.

Re: Digi9652

According to the RME website you quoted, it should be W52-2. You could contact Synthax US straight and they'll get it for you...

Re: Digi9652

Daniel,

Do you think the W52-2 includes both the W52 and M52? Maybe that is why the confusion with the listing on the RME site and others, and that the "-2" means there are two eproms? I ask this because the Synthax site has the same information as the RME site.

No, why should it...? The "-2" is the smaller chip for the rev. 1.5 boards.

I'd suggest not to worry all that much, and to call up Dan or Jeff at Synthax US on Monday and ask them to send you a W52 for your Hammerfall... They'll take care of the rest. By the way, are you sure the chip isn't in the box? If you still have the original packaging, do take a look.
