Topic: Sonar: recorded clips out of sync with 2 FF800 units

driver version: 3.015

I hae a weird problem with two FF800 units & Sonar 8.5.3. In some projects recorded audio is out of sync (late) about 80 ms. Same project with one unit in use does not have any sync problems.

* In Audio Options ASIO Reported Latency is 317 samples.
* I tried to disable all plugins in Sonar but it had no effect.
* Recorded track was coming from 1st unit.

Any idea how to fix this?

System:
W7 64-bit
Sonar 8.5.3 32-bit
i7 950 / Asus P6T
2 Fireface 800, latest firmware, driver 3.015

44,1 kHz, ASIO buffer 256

Re: Sonar: recorded clips out of sync with 2 FF800 units

How did you synch 2 FF800 devices?

Re: Sonar: recorded clips out of sync with 2 FF800 units

Unit 1: Wordclock from Unit 2
Unit 2: ADAT1 IN (Presonus Digimax)

Unit 1 ADAT1 in - Apogee AD16 1-8 (alternative Master if unit 2 is off. Wordclock to Presonus Digimax)
Unit 1 ADAT2 in - Apogee AD16 9-16
Unit 1 SP/DIF in - TC M-One (slave)

Unit 2 ADAT1 in - Presonus Digimax FS  (slave: Wordclock from Apogee AD16)
Unit 2 ADAT2 in - TC Intonator (slave)
Unit 2 SP/DIF in - TC G-Major (slave)

Unit 1 ADAT1 out - Apogee DA16 1-8 (slave)
Unit 1 ADAT2 out - Apogee DA16 9-16 (slave)
Unit 1 SP/DIF out - TC M-One (slave)

Unit 2 ADAT1 out - Fostex ADAT tape machine (slave)
Unit 2 ADAT2 out - not used
Unit 2 SP/DIF out - TC G-Major (slave)

Explanation:

When both units are on, Apogee AD16 is Master. It sends Wordclock to Presnus Digimax. From Digimax sync goes via ADAT to unit 2. Unit 2 sends Wordclock to Unit 1.

When only unit 1 is on: Apogee AD16 is Master. Then FF800 gets sync via ADAT1.

Every device has  'Sync' status in Fireface driver window.
I have used this setup quite long time without sync issues. Route from Master to all other devices may seem complicated (it is) but it works.

Re: Sonar: recorded clips out of sync with 2 FF800 units

Changes in system

Over 2 years ago:
- added ADAT devices
- added TC Intronator

Last Autumn
- upgraded Sonar 8.3.1 -> 8.5.1, later -> 8.5.2

This year:
- Sonar update 8.5.2 -> 8.5.3
- updated driver 2.992 -> 3.013 beta -> 3.015 beta
- upgraded 32-bit XP -> 64-bit W7, reinstalled Sonar & all programs.

I know I'm using beta drivers but 3.xxx versions work generally better in 64-bit W7 than 2.992.
