Topic: Loud thump when powering off

Hi,
Here's the problem. I had my Dynaudio monitors connected to a Presonus Central Station outputs and recently purchased a Fireface 800. I removed the speaker cables from the CS and inserted them into the FF800 outputs 1 & 2. The sound was like night and day better coming from the FF800! Stereo imaging better and everything clearer!. Now when it came time to turn off my system I get a loud thump from my Dynaudios. I want to keep this set up because it sounds better, but I dont want to blow my speakers. The Central Station is cool and never did this at all, only thing is it seems like it colors the stereo image and the volume is lower. I have the volume setting on the front of the CS set to full. Now I know that they say the CS is passive and transparent, but it doesn't seem that way to my ears. Is there something I dont have hooked up right in the FF800 that cause this thump when shutting off? Should I be adjusting something in the software of the FF 800 to stop the thump? Any suggestions welcome.

P.S. I even thought about replacing the CS with a Dangerous Monitor ST. Would this be a better choice?

Thanks.

Wow, 10 views and no replies? Come on guys help a fellow FF800er out. Gotta' be somebody with a suggestion or two. How 'bout admin? Any advice afterall you guys see all types of situations.

Re: Loud thump when powering off

Either power on your monitors after the FF & turn off the FF after the monitors, or use some other passive attenuator. The Dangerous box should work very well.

Re: Loud thump when powering off

Yep - Proper system power on and power off practices dictate the Amps get turned on Last, and turned off First.  In your case amps = powered monitors.  You can put the monitors on a power stip as that makes turning them on/off a LOT easier in most cases.  You can also find power strips that have a wired switch for convenience.

Your Presonus CS had a passive attenuator and basically attenuated (and colored wink ) the turn on and turn off thumps "post" the unit's active electronics.  A dangerous controller is a great idea and would solve you issue as Jeff mentioned - but I'd rather spend $10 on a power strip myself and spend the rest on a new mic or compressor :-)

Re: Loud thump when powering off

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I will probably have to have to follow Jeff or Randyman's posts until I purchase the Dangerous Monitor ST. It should
be a lot more transparent than the Central Station.

Thanks

Re: Loud thump when powering off

Hey Jeff by the way, is there any other passive attenuators that you could suggest? I'm a gear slut so it can't be too cheesy. I love quality gear if I can afford it.
