Topic: Surround Bass Management in the new Totalmix?

I'm posting this here because there's no dedicated forum to Totalmix. I was wondering if the new TM can perform bass management duties for a multichannel setup.

If the new TM was capable of setting proper 12 or 24 db oct high/low passes for L-C-R-Rs-Ls channel bass management and capable of providing +10 dB on the LFE to conform to the Dolby LFE level spec, I would actually consider getting one of the RME USB models that support this because it wouldn't be far in price from stand alone units and it would provide me with system-wide bass-management and level controls. Even a Babyface would do and I would ADAT it to my ADI for output.

Sorry, no bass management or surround decoding features...

Daniel, But for the Babyface, it sounds like it can be implemented right ?
I have to agree here, This is a great feature for the babyfaces to have, that will appeal to many potential customers,
With so many 2.1 monitoring setups nowadays.

Re: Surround Bass Management in the new Totalmix?

Even for simple 2.1 or 5.1 all that's required to provide minimal bass management is high-pass filters on the 2 or 5 main channels and pre-effect sends to another 2 or 5 channels where low-pass filters are implemented with a subsequent sum of these to the sub out. The +10 dB Dolby requirement is usually handled by the sub amplification but it could also be handled by a gain cell and a hard limiter.

It's all pretty basic stuff, but not knowing the capabilities or limitations of the Babyface's routings and DSP is why I asked. The question is really whether routing as just described can be implemented, because from what I've seen the EQ's and gain control is there.
