Topic: Buying New Fireface - Fireface UC too less Inputs-How to expand?

Hi Everybody,

I bought a 1 year old MacBook Pro and wanted to buy a FF 800. But after Apple not supporting FireWire any longer (in the long term), I doubt it is a good investment. So I thought about going for a FF UC, but it has few inputs, so some questions which i know are not so objective, but any advice will be appreciated:

1) Does it really makes sense to invest on a FF 800?
2) Is RME not planning to make a FF 800 USB or a FF UC with more channels?
3) What will be the best way to expand FF UC input capabilities if I would go for this product?

Again, any advice will be really appreciated, thanks!!! ;-)

Cheers, Cesar.

Hello,

the easiest way to expand is to connect an external AD and/or DA converter to the ADAT I/O ports.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for your prompt answer. By not going into the other questions, can I assume you are telling me inderectly i should not buy a firewire interface and go rather for the usb one? HeadScratch

I suppose I can use an OctaMic II for the expansion you are talking about, right?! If not which product will you recommend? (with XLR)

I understand if RME is not willing to speak about product development plans regarding question nr. 2 wink

Any advice concerning the investment from anybody else?

Cheers,
Cesar.

If the FF800 has the number of I/Os, go for it... The Octamic would be a good option if you only need AD conversion for mic inputs.
