Topic: Fireface UC with 'Hackintosh'

I own real Mac's and custom made 'Hackintoshes'.

I also own a Fireface 400, Fireface UC, HDSP PCI, Hammerfall, and HDSP PCIe along with some CardBus systems.  (I own a recording studio which is why I have so many of the RME products: actually I use RME products exclusively at my studio)

On my latest build of Hackintosh (using Gigabyte x58A-U3R with Intel i7 930 with Mac OS X 10.6.3) everything works great except for the Fireface UC.

I use this device on both Vista and Windows 7 on my laptop and it works great with no problems... (I love the way you can unplug the USB connector and the digital mixer still works without the computer plugged in)

I've gotten the audio on the motherboard to work just fine with the Hackintosh using the iBoot and Multibeast method...  love it!

But the drivers and software for the Fireface UC do not work on the Hackintosh...  They appear in the applications folder and they 'appear' to work, but they do not.  When you click on the icons they look like they are trying to load but nothing happens after that - no mix and no settings window.

Anybody have a clue as to why it doesn't work?

Thanks!

Larry

Re: Fireface UC with 'Hackintosh'

Did you remember to change the unit to Apple firmware mode?

No.

How do I do that?

Re: Fireface UC with 'Hackintosh'

Unplug the USB from your computer, but keep it powered. Double tap the knob, the screen will show "AP" when switched to Mac mode, and "PC" when switched to Windows mode. This is explained in the manual, and also on the sheet of paper on the top of the unit when you opened the package.

The manual?

You mean I was supposed to read that?  (just kidding)

No, I didn't see that.

Actually I've never used this particular device on a Mac before... it's always been used on my laptop with Vista and Win7.

I tried what you suggested and it works like a champ.

Thanks for your help!

All the best to you!

Re: Fireface UC with 'Hackintosh'

OK, now there is a different problem.

I ran the flash updater and tried to flash the device.

Now it won't come on... no lights no nothing.

Any ideas?

(this is still on the hackintosh)

Re: Fireface UC with 'Hackintosh'

Nevermind... figured it out.

I just held the button down while I powered up and it reset itself.

(that's probably in the manual too... sorry)

You guys are the best!

Thanks!

Larry
