Topic: RayDat - No Sound

Hi there, this is might be a really easy solution that I am just overlooking because I am newbie to such a sophisticated piece of gear.  I got the RayDat hooked up in my XP 64 computer, it seems to be powering up fine (ADAT is lighting up), and audio seems to be going to it (the meters in the RME mixer are moving), but I cannot get sound out of it.  Just some other notes:

-  Windows XP64 OS.
-  Didn't install drivers from CD when I got it two days ago, I went directly to the RME website and downloaded the newest drivers and did the flash update.
-  Using East West Quantum Leap Brass XP Platinum standalone application, I can see audio is going to the card because the RME mixer meters are moving up to about -18 dBfs.
-  I made sure all of the faders were up in the mixer and that audio us being routed to ADAT 1 + 2.
-  I have the ADAT1 out (ch. 1 - 8) hooked-up to a headphone DA converter.
-  I have tried all of this in Reaper too, and nothing is working.
-  I have tried the other 4 ADAT outs and nothing

I am apparently overlooking something.  I've made sure nothing is muted, nothing is turned down, all audio is going to ADAT 1/2, etc.  Even checked to make sure my headphones weren't fried and they are fine too.

What could I be doing wrong?

Thanks,

Uro

Re: RayDat - No Sound

Isn?t the headphone DA converter optical spdif (as opposed to adat)?

Re: RayDat - No Sound

Hi Vinark, it has both "coaxial" and "optical".  This is the unit that I bought:

Re: RayDat - No Sound

You need to feed the DA an SPDIF signal, not ADAT. Just use the coax connection or switch an optical output to SPDIF.

Re: RayDat - No Sound

Adat won?t work, it?s 8 channel. Spdif optical 2 channel. They are not compatible even if they use the same cable. So you need to use the coaxial spdif out on the breakout cable.
Good luck

OOPS Daniel we were typing at the same time.

Re: RayDat - No Sound

Awesome!  I'll give that a go when I get home from work.  I figured that by having only two channels of audio going ADAT out of the card that it would work.

Re: RayDat - No Sound

Actually, I reread the some of the manual again and the ADAT4 to SPDIF makes sense now.
