Topic: Digicheck 5.30 and 5.31 CPU spike problem on Win7 64 bit

Hi. I have win7 64bit system on i7 comp, 6GB ram and with FF800. I have big problem with CPU spikes with Digicheck 5.31 (and 5.30). Other than this, it is a PC that works great with my PT 8.0.4 HD2 system and very big PT sessions with 50 min HD video playing and lots of tracks and plugins. When I start DC, Pro Tools stops instantaneously due to a CPU overload problem, even if playing smallest session with just one track . In task manager's cpu usage window, there are spikes on 6th processor-core (HT is on). If I try to start DC in compatibility mode for XP or Vista, CPU usage just spreads over other CPU cores. DPC latency is always normal. With just Spectral analyser open CPU usage is 3-18% and with 4bar Level m. and Vector scope also open it's jumping from 7-25%. PT stops because the spikes are in one core to the top, if not running in compatibility. If in compat. mode, in smaller sessions I can work with DC because usage is more spread, but it stops very often.
I don't know what else to try. I've disabled disabled Aero display effects, and have all optimisations in win for audio workstation. On Win XP I have used DC for 6 years now and using it every day, so I'm in big problem. Can anyone try to see if they have large CPU activity in WIN7 64bit with DC open.
Thanks

P.S. Fireface mixer has 0% cpu

Re: Digicheck 5.30 and 5.31 CPU spike problem on Win7 64 bit

Not a huge cpu issue but I did note in another 5.30 related thread that when I have an app with a legacy compositing path open (using GDI+ calls from XP era or before) that Digicheck and that combined under the more recent Nvidia drivers tend to bring my UI responsiveness to a crawl.  Still working on a fix for that...

I expect this to be a problem of your motherboard and/or its BIOS.

Thank you for your fast responce. I'll update mb bios and drivers (Gigabyte EX58-UD3R), ATI card is up to date. I'll post again if something changes.
Thanks again

Re: Digicheck 5.30 and 5.31 CPU spike problem on Win7 64 bit

After an update of motherboard bios and all drivers, problem is same, except now the last processor (8th) in task menager's cpu window have spikes to the top. As my motherboard is very popular (Gigabyte EX58-UD3R rev1.6), I was wondering if someone at this forum has same motherboard and does have problem with cpu spikes in DC on win7 64bit (or not have it). I will try to experiment with different setups in bios to maybe find a solution.

Re: Digicheck 5.30 and 5.31 CPU spike problem on Win7 64 bit

5.32 doesn't work with FF400 win 7 64bit. It's official. Not with Cubase , not with WMP, NADA

Win7 64bit
Fireface 400 with latest FF driver and firmware
i7, Intel board,8GB RAM
Cubase 5.5 64bit

Not at all... HeadScratch

Running a Sequoia Project with lots and lots of plugs (just for CPU load, more than one would ever need in real life...) at around 80% CPU of an i7 870 on an Intel board along with DC Totalyser displaying the master output ASIO signal with no apparent problems or CPU spikes.

Daniel,

I've used 5.32 on the same machine running XP 32bit and cubase with no problem.

Are you on Win 7 64bit in the setup above?

Win7 64bit
Fireface 400 with latest FF driver and firmware
i7, Intel board,8GB RAM
Cubase 5.5 64bit

Re: Digicheck 5.30 and 5.31 CPU spike problem on Win7 64 bit

in my system it seems that DC is competing with other audio apps over the audio driver/interface. when I turn off the DC, WMP starts plYING AGAIN. How can I solve this?

Are you sure to use the latest drivers for the Fireface?

Re: Digicheck 5.30 and 5.31 CPU spike problem on Win7 64 bit

Thanks.

The driver was not updated. I updated the driver, now windows sound manager picks up analog 7+8 outputs, while I have physical outputs 1+2 to the speaker!! very weird. DC still not working alongside either.

Re: Digicheck 5.30 and 5.31 CPU spike problem on Win7 64 bit

Please be more clear. If you select Analog 1/2 in the system Sound control panel then Windows WDM devices will play back on these channels in TotalMix. There is no way how this can go wrong. If your current routing lets it play out somewhere else change it in TotalMix, or better do a reset (Options menu) first.

Re: Digicheck 5.30 and 5.31 CPU spike problem on Win7 64 bit

Hi analog7/8 is typically routed for phone monitor. I was getting only sound out of headphones. Analog1/2 output was dead. Then I selected Analog 1/2 from WDM as default, then I had sound.

Anyways, system is stable after updating FF400 driver, hotfixing windows 7 for firewire, and going back to IEEE1394 leagcy driver.

Still got no joy running DC alongside

Re: Digicheck 5.30 and 5.31 CPU spike problem on Win7 64 bit

To be exact I get the "error 4 opening audio device"

I can do global recording, but that's about it. No levels or totalizer or anything else

Re: Digicheck 5.30 and 5.31 CPU spike problem on Win7 64 bit

You either use DC the wrong way (after the error select the correct entry in the dialog) or are not using the latest version which fits to the latest driver.

Re: Digicheck 5.30 and 5.31 CPU spike problem on Win7 64 bit

Just a bit background:
I am running:
Asus P35K MB
Latest board driver
latest graphics driver
CPU Q9450
4 GB RAM
TI FF card
TI Driver selected
FF driver latest
DC latest
FF400 latest firmware
Dual boot PC > XP32 and & win 7 64bit booted from different disks
HDDs are at 7200 rpm
using Jbridge and Cubase 5.5 both 32 and 64 bit

On XP I got no probs with anything but a rare crash, maybe once every 4 weeks, while DCP checker shows occasional spikes over 2000us!
On Win 7 64 bit I still can't get DC to work alongside Cubase or any other audio app. DC opens but no levels show(Asio fireface selected).. Playing back 6 tracks of audio in cubase and 2 VST, I get VST performance spiking ans get stutter effects every minute or so even I raised the buffer to 1024, while DPC checker shows no spikes at all!

I donno how I could use DC wrongly, I have been using it for the past 5 years!
So these 2 problems got to have a cause. In the meantime , I am working under XP sad

Re: Digicheck 5.30 and 5.31 CPU spike problem on Win7 64 bit

Is that the retail version of W7 64 or the pre-release?

Re: Digicheck 5.30 and 5.31 CPU spike problem on Win7 64 bit

I got it through subscription through my corporation. So, I guess it's like retail license.

Cubase 5.5 64bit

Re: Digicheck 5.30 and 5.31 CPU spike problem on Win7 64 bit

Please check the exact version number. Build 7100 would be the release candidate and cause similar symptoms.
