Topic: system setup questions - PCIe and 1394a

DAW: Sonar 8.5
Interface: Fireface 800
FX card: UAD-1e
Video Card: XFX PVT73GUGE3 GeForce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16
Motherboard: Asus P5B Deluxe board with 2gb ram
Processors: Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Conroe 2.13GHz LGA 775 dual core

Should I connect my Fireface with a separate PCIe Firewire card?
I have read that the motherboard 1394a input is problematic.

If I do will that card conflict with either the UAD-1e or my video card?

Issues:
Sonar sometimes does not completely draw plug-ins when I open them.
Sonar seems overwhelmed with small 6-10 track audio projects.
In general mys system seems slower than it should for the demands placed on it.

I have this system completely "optimized" for daw operation. It does not serve any other function than composing music.
It is not on the web and has no unnecessary background operations or software running while on.

General and specific suggestions and ideas welcome.

Cheers!
