Topic: Word size in standalone mode

Please excuse the basic question, but where and how is the word size set? I am using the FF UC in standalone mode as a preamp and AD into a Marantz PMD 661 portable recorder through SPDIF. I know I set the sample rate in the device settings but where is the word size set? My guess is that the receiving end "requests" e.g. 24-bit word size. Is that so? Also, is there any way to change the sample rate in standalone mode?

The bit resolution is fixed to 24 bit. The sample rate can only be programmed online, not changed later, except for using an external clock source with the unit in slave mode.
