Topic: Totalmix for Ipad request

Hi,

I've been an RME fan and user the last five years mostly thanks to Totalmix. I just got the UFX and it's really a home run, a GREAT audio interface indeed! It's way ahead of the competition. Now I also bought an Ipad and installed the AC-7 Core application with Mackie Control protocol. It's cool to be able to remote control Totalmix but I have no control over the EQs, dynamics or selecting sub groups. And I have yet to get it working on my MacBook, as of now it only works with the PC.

What I would absolutely love is a Totalmix FX app for Ipad and Iphone, where one has control over EQ, choosing sub groups, dynamics, pans, mutes, solo buttons and faders with large enough buttons for touch control over WiFi. Being able to sit in the audience at gigs and do live mixing would be fantastic, to tweak monitor levels onstage and setting front of house EQ while walking around the venue are also things that would kick ass.

Is that something you might consider given a big enough user base?

Re: Totalmix for Ipad request

You should be able to select submixes, this is a feature implemeted for some time alreday. Further Mackie support for controlling fx is on our list.

An iPhone or iPad app is not very likely to be made by us. Maybe someone else who is more into this will do it...

Hi, thank for the reply! I found the submix key but it's still a bit cumbersome to use. Still better than nothing smile

I was so inspired by this one, wish I was a programming wizard...

Actually, all RME would have to do is built OSC protocol support in Totamix, just like Apple did with Logic 9.1.3 recently.

There's already a bunch of controller apps that use OSC protocol and it's AWESOME:

My life in the studio was made easier than ever now that I can tweak Logic parameterns inside the recording room while positioning drum mics wirelessly using iPad and TouchOSC. And it would become even easier if I could also do it with Totalmix!

Needless to say that it would be a great promotional feature to RME sales dep. to work with wink

see ya

Re: Totalmix for Ipad request

OSC would be awesome... especially for Lemur owners : )

Re: Totalmix for Ipad request

would be cool to see a way for ipad/android to control totalmix, the elegant method would be without a computer in the middle but given the UFX doesnt have any form of wireless i'll presume there is no chance at all of this happening through RME ? I could envisage a wireless dongle for the USB port or maybe even something like a midi adaptor which transmits via bluetooth ?? i wonder does anyone make a midi/bluetooth adaptor already ? If so, all youd need is the tablet app to allow midi to be transmitted across bluetooth and you would theoretically be able to set this up.

EDIT: just found these which looks like its on the right track..

if RME reworked totalmix to be able to control all functions and FX across midi CC's then this could be feasable solution for FOH applications.

I liked that one more:

Looks like TouchOSC could control TM from the iPad like a Mackie remote or the BCF2000 would do. I searched the TouchOSC site but did not find any such preset or template for that. Nor did that website make clear why the version seen in the video looks quite different to the unlabelled (empty...) examples shown in the website and the store (which IMHO prevent people from trying the project at all).

Re: Totalmix for Ipad request

if you had one of these..

http://www.wifimidi.com/

couldnt you plug it directly into the UFX and interface it with TouchOSC on your ipad ? There is also touchDAW for android, i havent seen either in action but if one of those programs allows you to map the faders and rotaries to the standard mackie midi CCs then i would presume it would control TM in the UFX without a computer ?  i am presuming mackie control surfaces use standard midi CCs when interfacing with hardware ? or do they use some other method such as sysex ? either way you would think TouchOSC would be able to map its interface to resemble a mackie controller..

Theoretically, you can use any OSC/MIDI bridge to make TouchOSC work with TotalMix, just like we use to do with Logic before Apple build OSC support inside. But you'll have to map ALL messages that you want to send with that bridge, which is far from be an easy task and takes A LOT of time with try and error.

It's unquestionably that it would be sooooo more easy(to us end users, of course) if RME embrace OSC protocol... There you go, my new year's wish! ;-)

Re: Totalmix for Ipad request

You better don't waste your wish like that. We already stated a long time ago that OSC support is on our list. I just can't tell when it will come.

Re: Totalmix for Ipad request

OSC is the future... RME... the faster you integrate it, the better and more cool your image will be : )

+1 for OSC New Year's wish! (even if it is for 2013)

Cheers,

Really? I guess I missed that one, but certainly it was not in this thread. Nice to know anyway!

Really. This is huge. OSC support changes everything.

I didn't know this either.  Good news!

Re: Totalmix for Ipad request

I've read that RME has asked TouchDaw for cooperation. Are there any news on this?

Re: Totalmix for Ipad request

Very interesting.  Seems rather odd if RME reached out to collaborate with TouchDaw via a public forum.  in any event, this is promising.  Thanks for posting the link.
