Topic: Fireface UFX, typo in manual and questions

Chapter 14 > Firewire (page 30)

‹Power on the computer. Switch on the Fireface when Windows shows the desktop.

This is clearly copied from the windows section and should be changed to "Finder".

Thanks. HeadScratch

Now to the questions:

1. As an old Fireface 800 owner I have grown accustomed to switching on the audio interface first and then booting my Mac. Is this Ok with the UFX?

2. When I turn on the UFX Totalmix always tells me that there is a difference between TotalMix and the UFX and then asks if I want to use the TotalMix settings or if I want to ignore. Is this the way it is supposed to be, even if I have saved everything exactly between TM and UFX?

Other than that I want to thank you on an amazing unit. I've only just scratched the surface on all of it's power and I'm really liking it.

Re: Fireface UFX, typo in manual and questions

0. Thanks, I changed that for the next revision of the manual.

1. No problem.

2. This is not normal. Are you using the latest drivers and firmware from the website?

I think so!

Kernel driver v2.89
Firmware 342/110/336
TotalMix FX 0.924 Mac Os X

Correction!
It's not every time but every time i reboot my computer and then turn on the UFX.

Here's the dialog window:

Re: Fireface UFX, typo in manual and questions

We are working on a new TM FX with lots of smaller bugfixes, where this one will hopefully be fixed too. Thanks for telling us!

Re: Fireface UFX, typo in manual and questions

A small note:
If you are using FireWire and you switch UFX on before the computer, the unit will restart itself when it detects the FW connection.
I think this is becuase the unit defaults to USB.
That's why it's better to switch the unit on after the computer is up and ready.

Re: Fireface UFX, typo in manual and questions

Eric, it seems this is not a bug, so we have to track down why you see this message.

1. Make sure when this message comes up to click 'Yes', so both are fully synchronized. If done wait 5 seconds, remove the UFX cable, wait 5 seconds, reconnect. No message should come up.

2. The key to this mismatch might be the way you switch the UFX off. After changes in TM it can take up to 5 seconds for these changes to be stored within the unit. If you switch the UFX off too quick the message would come even without rebooting the Mac, just by switching the unit on again. Best switch the UFX off after the Mac is powered down.

3. If the error consists then TM FX was not able to write its last state correctly into its configuration file (Mac turning off too quick or similar). Don't think this is the case though.

This is exactly it!
I always switched off the UFX first and then the Mac.
Tried switching off the Mac first and then the UFX and no more mismatch.

Maybe this information could make it into the manual as well? :-)

Thanks again Matthias.

Re: Fireface UFX, typo in manual and questions

I also have this message from time to time on my Windows XP machine.  The PC is never switched off (occasional reboot) and I haven't taken particular notice of when this message appears but I always choose "yes" and everything seems to be well.

Would be good to know why it occurs though.

Very pleased with the UFX - great unit.  Used the pre's for the first time the other day, they seem to be a step up from the FF800 pre's.  Also the DA in particular conversion is great.

Re: Fireface UFX, typo in manual and questions

I've found another Windows/Os x "typo".
Same page penultimate row: "Device manager" should be changed to System Profiler.
