Topic: Vst Performance Is Maxing Out Quickly

So it seems that my CPU is being gulped down rather quickly.

I've got the Hammerfall 9652 and the expansion card.

I've got the buffer size set to 64

I'm running WIN 7 PRO 64 bit, i7 870 2.93 GHz processor, with 8 gigs of ram.

My OS is on a 500gb hard drive and my audio files and DAWS are being ran off a 2 T hard drive.

I'm using Cubase 4 in 32 bit mode but it would seem that even after having maybe 15 tracks, it starts glitching and popping, and eventually it's just a mess. When I check VST PERFORMANCE it's practically maxed out or IS maxed out. For what ever reason this isn't ALWAYS the case. Sometimes i can get 40 tracks deep before this happens, others not so much.

Seems like this shouldn't even nearly be the case.

Is this a Soundcard issue, Cubase issue, OS issue, or a Plug in issue?

Any help would be great!

Thanks!

Re: Vst Performance Is Maxing Out Quickly

There are plugs that don´t run happily at a 64 buffer. If the problem goes away at 256, it is then a process of elimination to find out which plug. BTW I run at 64 almost always. I know of only one vsti with this isue. It´s called The Trumpet (loads in Kontakt) and it is by design. The script it uses needs a buffer of 256.

It sure isn´t a soundcard issue, but it could be a motherboard or chipset issue.
Good luck!
