Topic: Question: Can RME Hardware/Drivers Be Used With Virtual Machine?

Hi,

Using Windows 7/64, Cubase 64, VSL, VEP.

Like many, I'm getting sick of the slow load times for large projects.

On my non-DAW computer I routinely use VMWare and toggle between Linux and Windows64

I'm wondering if this is possible with Cubase and RME hardware/drivers so that I could keep several virtual machines running... each with its own instance of Cubase.

I've noticed that the hardware has to have drivers that are supported by each virtual os in order to be 'shareable'. So for example, my DVD player will only work with -either- the Linux VM -or- the Windows instance.

Any thoughts on this? If this could work it would be -great-.

It can't. Generally when hardware drivers are involved that need direct hardware access then virtual environments fail. Using a SSD might help with your load times.
