Topic: Question regarding Spidf

Hello

I use and enjoy a multiface mk 1, recently i started working on my partner PC and he uses a Motu Sound card
I connected the Motu's Spdif out to the multiface spdif and set it in disconnect mode so now i'm hearing through the RME when using my partner's computor,

My Question is: am i losing something (sound quality wise) with this set up oppose to connect the multiface inside his computer?
does Spdif degrade sound?
the two cards are not clocked but i don't hear any clock issues when monitoring or recording through the RME

by the way, the multiface sounds a lot better than the Motu, in my opinion

Thanks

Re: Question regarding Spidf

No.
No.
The cards are clocked via SPDIF. Did you set the clock source to SPDIF before entering the Disconnect mode? Then all ok.

Re: Question regarding Spidf

I haven't touched the clock settings on both cards, yet it works perfectly on the RME, the Motu does make some weird clocking noises, witch don't bother me as i don't hear through it.

Should i clock the Motu of the RME or the other way around?
Is the RME not able to send a clock out during disconnect mode?

Thanks for the reply
