Topic: Total Mix Brain Freeze

Hi Guys, I have been recording my own music for over 10 years so I dont think Im completely unable to understand how to get things to work but I am having serious brain freeze working with Total mix.
I cant really get it to do the simplest things.
Im trying to route 5 tracks of vocals out of my DAW (protools 9) though my UFX into a Tascam 388 for some tape saturation then back though UFX to DAW.
Lets say its tracks 1-5 on DAW
How can I get each track routed on its own channel out of the UFX outputs?

Im plugged into the outputs 3-7 on UFX then over to 388 inputs 1-5. I hear all vocal tracks on all channels. So its just all coming out as one stereo mix.

....I know what you are going to say...and Yes, I have read the manual. Its ok (not the best English) but I thought understood it as I went along, though to be honest it does assume I know a lot more technical terminology than I actually do.

Basically I just want to get some simple levels in and out of the UFX and get back to the MUSIC. I dont even mind bypassing Total Mix for the time being and using the UFX as a A/D convertor until I can lean more about total mix.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Total Mix Brain Freeze

You didn't read the manual. It's very hard for a lot of people to understand TMFX without reading the manual.
If you would have read the manual, you would have understood that the top row represents your hardware INPUTS
The middle row represents your software outputs
And the bottom row represents your hardware outputs
hardware inputs can be routed to multipe outputs
Software outputs can be routed to multiple outputs
I always find it most easy to work bottom up, so select the hardwar output you want signal on and add the hardware input or software output signal that you would like to hear.
Look at the hardware outputs as direct outs, they don't sum into the main out, the main out is just another hardware out, but with some control room options.
That's really all there is to it.
But seriously, you wouldn't had to ask this question if you would have taken the time to watch 1 or 2 TMFX videos or just even have read the tmfx chapter in your pdf manual

Hey Raphie, Thanks for the help. No thanks for the condescending way you delivered it. I did read the manual and watched the videos.
All knowledge is accumulative. You're not a hot-shot because you know something that someone else does not yet know. But you did help me with my question, so thanks for that...isn't that what this forum is for?

Re: Total Mix Brain Freeze

Yes it is, out of curiousity, what did you not grasp when reading the manual?
Sometimes a bit grumpy in the morning especially after to much smirnoff last night wink

Ha. No worries. I feel the same. Ive decided to go back and read the manual again. I must have missed a bunch the first read through. Cheers.
