Topic: madi wordclock question

If I was running my clock in a rig say 300 feet away with the pres and ad's and ran a fiber to the madi fix card can I clock the card from the fiber input and use the word clock out to a da ?
Will the madi line carry clock over that distance?

Re: madi wordclock question

also will it carry the 10m clock from antelope?

Re: madi wordclock question

MADI doesn't need additional word. It would defeat its main purpose.

Re: madi wordclock question

I always understood that madi clock is more jitter prone than wordclock? that's what SSL is saying too for their alphalinks?

Re: madi wordclock question

Download one of our MADI manuals and read the chapter about SteadyClock, or here:

A long word clock cable will cause more jitter (that needs to be processed/reduced) as well.

Re: madi wordclock question

so using my HDSPe madiFX as master over madi, is a tighter solution then using my alphalink or Madison as master via WC?

Re: madi wordclock question

As long as you don't tell us exactly how your setup looks no one can answer that.

Re: madi wordclock question

Ok, so below is what I'm using

MadiFX
SPL madison via fiber to MadiFX
SSL Alphalink via fiber to MadiFX
RME ADI 8 DS MK3 via spdif optical to SSL Alphalink
TASCAM DA-3000 with AES to MadiFX
The Tascam is my MIXBUS ADC and monitoring DAC
The other interfaced process synth sources
I'm now experimenting the the new TASCAM 1000 clock generator, which works quite well
But if I can get even better performance from making the madifx master then that saves a clocking unit. I'm fully aware on most peoples pov on dedicated clocking and that according to some old S.O.S articles it should not improve sound, as internal crystal should always be more accurate than syncing from something external.

Re: madi wordclock question

I'm using neve 1071 remote pres with antelope orion32 with the 10m clock at 1 end and a computer with madi fx card with the eclipse on other end can I use the orion to send clock thru madi to the card and clock the eclipse from WC out from madi card?

Sure. But the Eclipse can also use the clock from the AES connection that you will use (as it is the only way the FX card can communicate with the Eclipse - sending a stereo monitoring mix via XLR). Word is not needed then.

Re: madi wordclock question

Yes cause it's being hooked up thru aes .and I can't run 2 independent clocks....also will madi carry the 10m clock?

Re: madi wordclock question

MADI will take the input clock and transport it to the MADI output, so everything will stay in sync. But it is not the '10m' clock anymore, in case you talk about fully identical jitter specs. Every unit processes incoming clock in different ways. Only a simple distributor unit would not touch the clock and send it out identical.

You just answered my question as well. smile thnx MC!

Re: madi wordclock question
