Topic: Suggestion: Jitter free midi from audio
Hello,
I'd like to give a product suggestion. Maybe this is even possible with existing products via driver update, since I have a Multiface 2 I'd obviously prefer that
Maybe you are aware of the problem that a PC does not send out jitter free midi, which especially is a pain when using external sequencers or any external midi controlled system which relies on a stable clock.
The existing solutions for this problem are either an external clock, which is not good as receiving midi in the PC has the same jitter problem as sending, or solutions like Innerclock sync gen or Expert Sleepers ES-4 + ESX-8MD.
Would it be possible to do a solutiion like expert sleepers, without needing additional hardware? Maybe a virtual audio channel for such a purpose can be added in the driver, which will convert audio data send to that channel in midi and send that out, so sample accurate midi is provided by the RME interface? I assume the RME driver is high enough in the Operating system hierarchy to allow such operations with accurate timing, while standard midi apparently is not. Maybe an open specification can be published which audio values will result in which midi values. Like this, maybe even the Expert sleepers plugin can be used to to communicate on such a virtual channel, so for you it could be "only" a driver update while others maybe increase there plugin sales (and RME audiointerface sales obviously).
Currently no other company offers such a solution of jitter free midi directly via the audio interface, there is always the need for separate hardware, which seems not really necessary if a company like RME would have a look at the issue. Having unique features probably is not a bad thing.
Thanks and regards
