Topic: Manual
I recently bought a Babyface Silver.
The hardware is excellent. I can use software monitoring (Logic Pro X) with hardly any latency.
I'm now learning TotalMix Fx.
Plus points: it's rock solid, very capable and flexible.
Minus points: it took me almost a day to master its basic functionality.
And I'm not the only one, looking at Google results.
It all comes down to the manual.
For example, the most important concept is assigning inputs and software playback to outputs. This is only covered in a few lines at the bottom of page 42. Easily missed. Well, I did. It may be so obvious how it works, but not for a beginner. Adding a simple walk-through / example setup at the beginning of the chapter, would help every user and save time.
Also, nowhere in the current manual it's explained what the AS channel controls. Had to google that.
Or how about adding a FAQ?
Q: My recording software doesn't record my backing track which my computer is playing.
A: Enable Loopback on the hardware output (click Settings). For more information, see chapter ...
And so on.
This is one of those manuals which is quite clear AFTER one has learned how to operate the software, but not BEFORE.
Probably written by one of the technicians? ;-)
Also, I can't understand why the TotalMix Fx interface is fixed at at a certain resolution. On my iMac and MacBook the controles are tiny. Especially since i use only a few channels, so I've hidden a lot of channels. So much unused screen space.
If you guys ever going to rewrite the manual, I'll volunteer to review.
