Topic: Does Multi Face II Run Hot?

Hello, I noticed that my MFII runs very hot and i was wondering if that is normal. I am using it with a version 1.8 card with the RME 12v 2amp power supply.

I'm curious.. if the firewire is providing power and the power supply is providing power, would this be a reason?
and even on a side note, is there any danger to the unit having two sources of power? Thanks!

Re: Does Multi Face II Run Hot?

Hi there

Mine runs a little hot, slightly more than my former FFUC

By the way I have 2 questions to the support:
1) Does an external power supply have precedence over the FW incoming power ?
2) Does the FW supply plain +5Vdc power to the MII logics, that could explain the heat build-in of the voltage regulation needed from sourcing external higher voltage power ?

and want to emphasize on my full satisfaction regarding RME products that I have been able to operate
HDSP9632, then 9652, ADI8-QS, FFUC, and now a wonderful Multiface II /PCI set with a nice scalable Totalmix Fx
all of the best electronics league

HDSP9632, HDSP9652, ADI-8QS, FFUC, Quadmic II

Re: Does Multi Face II Run Hot?

1. The higher voltage is taken.

2. No. It supplies whatever FW delivers, usually 12V up.

The MF gets a bit more warm than the MF UC. Later techology that needs a bit less power...
