Topic: Black wire under the power and question about MF1

What is that black wire under the power connector on the back of the I/O card here on picture

http://www.rme-audio.de/images/products/products_fireface_ucx_1b.jpg

I was wondering why MF1 on pic. 1 have different capacitors than MF1 on pic.2 ? Are there any difference in their quality or something cause capacitors in MF1 on pic.1 have different colors and that big one on pic.1 looks thin like it's cheap or something comparing it to MF1 on pic. 2. Can you tell me whats the deal with that I would like to know, tnx.

1) It's a hook, not a wire.
2) Size doesn't matter...

Re: Black wire under the power and question about MF1

1. Oh okay, I found the answer on the link down.

2. So you are saying it's same thing ?

Re: Black wire under the power and question about MF1

2. No idea, honestly, I did not design it... What I'm saying it is certainly not "cheap" or inferior just because of the size. You'll find that tech specs of the MF II are actually better.

Re: Black wire under the power and question about MF1

Yeah I know tech specs of MF II are better because she is newer than MF I, but these two are both MF I, only thing I can think of is that maybe mine on pic.1 is some kind of revision 2, and on pic.2 is revision 1 or vice versa becouse mine looks a bit different from the outside I don't have that logos on the left ADAT. My friend in the studio have same card as mine and his card have that logos on the left, he told me he bought her when she was released from RME I don't if that was like 2008 or something like that. And what I noticed is that his card is connected and using power from firewire while mine is connected on adapter and my I/O box is heating a lot while his card is not even warm. I don't if thats becouse my card is on the adapter or what ? Plus look at the WC connectors his are more quality than mine, like my card is made cheaper or something.

Mine looks like this from the outside

his in studio looks like this

Re: Black wire under the power and question about MF1

While individual components may be exchanged or replaced during the production run of such a device, for various reasons, please be assued there are no "cheaper" varieties of the MF I or any other RME device.

Okay, but plastic vs metal seems like metal is a better choice.

Re: Black wire under the power and question about MF1

Depends. Metal brings contact to the housing, which is good for EMI, but makes no  sense when you have a galvanically isolated WC input (via transformer)...

I see, thanks for the explanation.
