Topic: Record ac3 audio (dolby) with HDSPe AES

Is it possible to record through HDSPe AES card inputs a dolby (ac3) stream?
As a raw pcm and then decode it to ac3

Thanks

Re: Record ac3 audio (dolby) with HDSPe AES

All our cards can do that, as it just means you have to record 16 audio bits unchanged.

The problem might be to get a software that can do the recording and later handle the recorded files. En- or decoding is not done by RME. Playing back recorded files with standard software usually fails because they miss the AC-3 header, so an AC-3 decoder will not know that they are AC-3...

Thanks Matthias

Is it correct to record the ac3 stream as I do with PCM using HDSPe AES card? I am getting 2 channels as PCM but noisy.

Is that the correct way to record de ac3 stream with this kind of card?

Regards.

AC-3 sounds like chopped noise, correct.
