Topic: rme adi8 - strange measuring results

hey there,

i wanted to measure some equipment today. therefore i always do a loopback test with the rme, so that i can compare the specs of the gear with the one of the adi8.

when i did so today, the result was strange. dynamic range always used to be at about 112db - today it was 103db and i also have some spikes at high frequencies.

the adi8 is still in the same rack but i use a hdsp 9652 now, instead of a hammerfall 9652. i also have a new gfx-card (matrox g450), because my old one died. i also moved to a new appartement.

can someone give me a hint if this is a problem with the adi8 or anything else.

you can have a look at my measurement here:

regards,
flo

Re: rme adi8 - strange measuring results

seems to be an issue with the hdsp 9652. if i run the test in 32bit (int), everythings alright again. also if i run it in 16bit. but i get these sparks when running it in 24bit. anyone got an explanation?

Windows Kernel mixer.

Re: rme adi8 - strange measuring results

WKM?
what do you mean?

why do i have the issue only with the hdsp in connection with the adi8, not with the older hammerfall 9652.

Re: rme adi8 - strange measuring results

Because you use WDM drivers with the HDSP.

Re: rme adi8 - strange measuring results

I did a loopback with TotalMixer with Analog 1&2 routed to SPDIF
on my Fireface 800, then analysed in WaveLab 6.10 with FFT Meter
and switched between ASIO and MME driver best lowest noise floor !
WDM worst noise floor (dither, resampling?)

the measurement rmaa doesn't support ASIO afaik, i used the mme-drivers for both, the hammerfall and the hdsp.

(dither, resampling?)

i had spikes in the noisefloor like this: spike at 600, 700, 800, 900, 1000, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400. no spikes from 1400 to 2500. then spikes again at 2600, 2700, 2800, 2900,...3400.

16bit and 32bit look ok with the hdsp.

Re: rme adi8 - strange measuring results

If you use the 3.x series driver then there is no MME. What you see is WDM with MME emulated.

Re: rme adi8 - strange measuring results

ok - if i used the 2.94 driver i could use mme for real?

Re: rme adi8 - strange measuring results

Yes, and it supports all bit depths - 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 32, in different byte per sample ways. But for what is it good for? Why do you need 24 bit in WDM anyway? In ASIO it works...

Re: rme adi8 - strange measuring results

thanks mc.

no, i don't really need it - just for my understanding.

thanks,

to use RMAA & test things, if i buy second hand or sell ? too test cables, so many things i can think off...

why do you downgrade such usefull utillity?

your curiosity makes you look to others/seem you "Rme" its too much in the offensive side
