Re: UFX MIDI problem
I checked today again, as what I wrote is approx 1y ago. Now with latest drivers:
USB input latency slightly higher compared to Fw
USB output latency slightly lower compared to Fw

SO - for those with this problem, I know it sucks, but don't put drives between the mac and the UCX. Because my problem is only with the incoming midi never getting to Logic, I can use the midi input on my Maschine instead, and still use the UCX outputs - because really, I do need to use those external drives.
I can confirm this! I dad troubles getting a MIDI In to my DAW via Firewire with my Fireface 802. Worked fine via USB. When I removed the Lacie hard disk from the firewire chain, MIDI In worked.
It's a workaround but a REALLY annoying one! I bought this device because RME had a reputation of doing textbook drivers and interfaces. My old MOTU 828 Mk2 had no problem whatsoever with this setup.
A bit disappointed here!
I added a few tests:
The problem persists with my Macbook Air (instead of iMac) and a Thunderbolt FW800 adapter. It also persists using a Freecom FW800 harddrive in the middle instead of a Lacie Quadra one.
However, there is a workaround: Turning the external hard drive off and back on with all cables connected. The FW connection is dropped for that time but when it comes back up, the Midi In works miraculously. I can even unplug the FW802 and back in. It still keeps going. But after reboot or re-plugging the Firewire cable into the iMac, the problem is back.
I have spoken to RME support about this and they told me they think it is unlikely that they will find a solution to this problem. However, I still have hopes they are going to look into it.
What a bummer : /
While I can't guarantee anything we will definitely have a look and try to reproduce it. If we can reproduce it a fix might be possible. Right after the summer holidays we will know more.
Following up here.
Maybe I fluked it but the new driver update appears to have solved my UFX MIDI problem - we were having the same issues as above, with the added fun of MIDI messages opening new screensets in Logic.

Could we get confirmation please if this has been solved? The release notes said the update only fixied the installer, leaving the actual driver the same.
As clearly communicated the last driver had just a modified installer, the driver files are all the same so there can be no fix with that one.

Same issues on both MIDI I/O s on UFX. WIN 7 64 bit Ultimate . MIDI OUT 2 doesn't work at all, MIDI OUT 1 sends totaly random notes/ values and CC
Open your own thread and give all the details. This thread is NOT the 'same'.
