Topic: Geithain RL-906D on UFX

Planning to purchase the RL-906.

I am unsure whether to take the cheaper 906 or to spend the additional money to get the 906D.

Does somebody know, whether the Geithain D/A converter would bring any advantage in terms of audio quality over using the ones of the UFX? Or should I better save the money?

How needs cabling to be done? AES seem to encode 2 pcm signals (stereo). The UFX has only one XLR output and the speaker has only one AES input.

Thanks for any recommendations.

Such a "quality" question is a highly subjective matter... You'll have to try. That said, nothing wrong with converter quality on the UFX...
And yes, AES/EBU is (digital) stereo on one cable.

Ok, agreed. I think I will save the money if there is nobody who convinces me from the opposite wink

But what would be required to cable the 2 boxes  with AES ? Is there something like a Hub which duplicates the digital signal ? Am still technically interested, never worked with AES before.

Check with Geithain - there will be some connection between the speakers that forwards the signal or so...

Regarding quality it really depends where or whom you ask. The high end gearslutz folks will convince you for sure to buy an additional converter or even buy separate amps. :-)
If you are living in Germany it's maybe even possible to try the 906D before you decide. I am sure you can bypass their converters so compare them to others...

Btw I was there once in Geithain and could compare their whole speaker range in their excellent showroom with own material and so. Some things I want you to know (only own opinion / experience):
Every speaker has the same quality and sound - the only difference is the bass capabilities. The more money you invest the more will you hear down there.
Two things I experienced were really interesting: The bassreflex system is not so good for critical work. It's more colouring the sound. Like some compression or transient smearing. The decay of a bassdrum wasn't so good to estimate with the reflex system. If your room isn't very good optimized regarding acoustics their cardioid system (speakers with k-ending) is incredible helpful! I know the price is very high for those speakers but at the end you are working with them for a very long time...
On the other hand I was relative relaxed that the speakers their didn't reveal any "system-error" with my own speaker sytem (Dynaudio BM5a). You just don't have the feeling of hearing music from a speaker. Their is no speaker between your ears and the music.

As I am about to buy the 906D now ...

Unlike the Neumann KH310D, the Geithain RL906D doesn't provide the possibility to connect the 2nd or even more monitors via BNC.

Could I use i.e. this cable to split the AES Signal for the 2 monitors ?

After getting in contact with another sales contact I got an even better recommendation and can buy here in Germany.

Compared to the Sonifex this is more to the point and supports up to 192 kHz (rarely needed, but I like to have options).

So from what I understood, if I would choose to have a project in Cubase @192 kHz, then also the other digital environment like the Speaker via AES would need to be able to change sample frequency to 192 kHz.
