Topic: RME ADI-2 Emphasis problem

Firmware: 1.4
Mainboard: IMM 07/05-B ADI Rev 1.4 226217xx

Program source material stored to CD / USB-Stick:
white noise / music

Source CD-Player:
digital to TC Electronic BMC-2    -> white noise / music signal are ok
digital to RME HDSP 9632                -> white noise / music signal are ok
digital to RME ADI-2                                    -> white noise / music signal are ok

Source HDTV satellite receiver:
digital to TC Electronic BMC-2    -> white noise / music signal are ok
digital to RME HDSP 9632                -> white noise / music signal are ok
digital to RME ADI-2                                    -> white noise / music signal has "Emphasis"
analog to RME ADI-2                                -> white noise / music signal are ok

"Emphasis":

Re: RME ADI-2 Emphasis problem

Use the 9632 with DIGICheck, start the Channel Status display on the SPDIF input and check. Don't forget to activate TMS in the Settings dialog.

Re: RME ADI-2 Emphasis problem

Sorry Matthias, my lack of TMP activation has cost us some time.

The results of Channel Status display with TMP activation:
Driver Vers. 3.38
DIGICheck Vers. 5.62

Source CD player:
Emphasis    :    None

Source HDTV satellite receiver Subframe 1:
Channel Use    :    Consumer
Data Use    :    Audio
Copyright    :    Copyright asserted
Emphasis    :    50/15 us
Category    :    DVD
Generation Status    :    Original
Sample Frequency    :    44,1 kHz
Clock Accuracy    :    Level II +-1000 ppm
Word Length    :    24 bits
SCMS    :    Copy permitted
Validity Bit    :    Data are valid
ISRC / Cat.-No.     :
Approximated s/f (slow)    :    44,08 - 44,13 kHz

In my opinion, we have this situation:

HDTV satellite receiver works wrong,
the unit sends permanent Emphasis (50/15 us).

RME ADI-2 works correct,
SPDIF signal with Emphasis (50/15 us) changed analog outputs but not SPDIF outputs.

RME HDSP 9632 works correct,
SPDIF-signal with Emphasis (50/15 us) changed NOT analog outputs and NOT SPDIF outputs - if "SPDIF out" Emphasis is not activate.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: RME ADI-2 Emphasis problem

That is correct.

You can remove the Emphasis indication passing SPDIF through the 9632 (simple SPDIF In to Out routing in TotalMix) into the ADI-2.

Re: RME ADI-2 Emphasis problem

Thank you, I enjoy my RME equipment.

We have now Christmas time and it is usual that you may make a wish ...:

RME ADI-2:
a new firmware 1.5 could help us
displaying Emphasis (50/15 us) - e.g. driving LED "Low Gain" in INPUT digital mode and
setting lock function - e.g. pressing 5 seconds INPUT LEVEL key while ADI-2 power up or while operating.

DIGICheck:
Add DIGICheck on your Website - e.g. to left frame "Quick Links" with links
http://www.rme-audio.de/english/techinfo/digich.htm and
current version of digicheck.chm
