Topic: Madiface XT to SSL console problems

I am trying to configure my MADIfaceXT to record from my SSL L300 console. I'm using the MADI 1 and 2 inputs. When I patch MADI channels 1-32 into the MADIface they are showing up correctly on the display and in TotalMix but there are numerous random level signals showing up on the next MADI bank, (32-64). They are very fast glichs usually showing 0 DBFS clip. I have tried every combination of Slave and Master clock settings and even switched the MADIface to Master through the Wordclock BNC although I would rather not clock my entire system that way. I have confirmed that the cables are Ok and the other MADI outputs on the desk are working just fine. I was told there are other references to RME / SSL compatibility issues on this forum but I couldn't find anything relevant using "search". If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd be very appreciative, thanks.

Re: Madiface XT to SSL console problems

I never heard of this specific error. Can you verify that the signals coming on channel 1-32 are fully ok and not miss samples the moment 33-64 freak out? Is that single speed operation or 88.2/96 kHz? Is the XT connected via USB 3 - in that case it might be a USB port or cable problem.

Re: Madiface XT to SSL console problems

Danke Matthias, I've just installed this console and interface so in addition to all the other software/hardware upgrades we've done in the past 2 months, there's been a huge learning curve. I have yet to get audio to the headphone output on the MADIface and have not found those instructions in the manual. The MADIface shows the channel errors without my Mac connected and I know my USB3 cable is OK. The native SR of the desk is 96K so I'm assuming this connection should be High speed. Does this help?

Re: Madiface XT to SSL console problems

Not completely. If you don't use the computer the XT will not change clock to double speed unless you set the sample rate to that value via the display menu. Even if you use the computer you need to start the DAW to set the correct sample rate unless you use 96k frame as MADI format on the external device.

Routing a signal to the Phones output is very easy, and TotalMix is described in detail in the manual. Doing this stand-alone is easy as well (as soon as you found the menu ;-) and described in the manual chapter 19.3. The 'Mix to xxx output' is available via the METERS button.
