Topic: Why is AES more expensive?

Hi, I'm looking at some of the RME cards on Thomann and I can't really figure out what makes the HDSPe AES more expensive than other cards. To me it seems to have less features than for instance the AIO. What am I missing?

Re: Why is AES more expensive?

I could think of, that this card requires more performant / expensive chips.

Rough calculation:
The RayDAT processes 4 (ADAT) * 8 (channels) * 48 kHz = 1536
The HDSPe AES is able to process 16 * 192 = 3072

Thats double the amount of data per second.

Re: Why is AES more expensive?

An AES card is for people that need AES. Obviously this is more seldom the case as with a mainstream AIO, means smaller production numbers, means higher costs.

So the AES is faster?

"Faster"? No, recording an hour's music will still take an hour...

I am well aware that RME didn't invent a damn time machine!
