Topic: Adi8qs BNC connection to another Adi8qs, possible

I have two Adi8QS interfaces, currently both connected via optical to a Madi FX card. I could however use two Madi IOs on the FX for other purposes and would therefore like to use only one Madi IO for both interfaces. Of course, there is the option of a ring setup, but I assume that will only work with both interfaces being switched on and I only rarely need the second one, so I would prefer to leave it off and save energy ... To make the world a better place, and all! ;-)
So, is it possible to leave the first unit connected to the Madi FX card via optical cables and connect the second unit via BNC to the first one? This, of course could be even expanded to another unit being connected to the second via optical again ... If it is possible at all, that is.
Unfortunately, I don't have a BNC cable, so I wanted to ask before buying one. Thanks!

When the unit is switched off then it is off. Saving the planet would require you to pull MADI out of the second unit and plug it into MADI out from the first unit. No problem if you don't use the second one often...

Re: Adi8qs BNC connection to another Adi8qs, possible

Thanks for the reply, Matthias! But my first option would be not having to exchange cables, as the rack is not that easily accessible. And I don't need it much, but that doesn't mean, I need it rarely.
Hence, my question was: is it possible to connect the second unit to the first via BNC cables, while the first unit is connected via optical cables to the Madi FX in the PC? As far, as I know, the BNC I/O just mirrors the optical I/O, so, this could work, but I am not sure. In the case it doesn't I guess I won't save the planet and rather switch them on both, when the studio is running. I just don't want to buy a midi router, as the setup is to small for that to be worth while ...

It won't work, sorry. Optical and coaxial output are not separated.
