Topic: New TotalMix FX 1.30 beta 1 available for download

A release candidate for the next version of TotalMix FX 1.30, beta 1, is now available for download. While this version finalizes support for the upcoming products, Fireface UFX+ and MADIface Pro, we fixed several issues that also affected the existing interfaces. Additionally Mono output support has been improved for ASIO Direct Monitoring.

Besides those fixes there are two big news:

- DAW mode. This simplified interface is for anyone not needing TotalMix, performing all monitoring and routing within the DAW. The DAW mode restarts TM FX into a simpler version with just two rows, no playback row, and no mixing faders in the input row. Routing is 1:1 only. Just gain and phantom control (if existing) and hardware output levels.

- Support for more than 8 channels in OSC. An additional setting now allows to select 8 (default), 12, 16 or 24 channels.

- An OSC remote can now be assigned to a specific submix.

Re: New TotalMix FX 1.30 beta 1 available for download

Very nice idea. Just tried it briefly ... works (win7).

Whats also nice, although you talked about a reset ... finally both TM instances reappeared.

But you need to look closely, the 2 windows close, the TM icon in the lower right vanishes for around 5 seconds for me,
then it re-appears, but both TM instances - which were before opened on screen - do not re-appear automatically.

1st I thought it doesnt work, but then I detected the TM icon coming back .. and that I have to push it, so that the 2 instances for UFX and RayDAT reappear on screen. Whats nice, they seem to reappear with the settings and window positions as before. Nice job.

I have 2 suggestions:

1. I would suggest to restore the TM windows/instances again on screen *automatically* after a mode change.

2. for somebody who really only wants to change the operation mode. I would add a menue "operation mode" when right clicking the TM icon in the lower right mini icon status bar (or how this is being called). And when doing it this way it might be an indication, that somebody doesnt want to open the TM windows on screen, but only wants to change the operation mode.

I think 1 + 2 together would be nice in combination and raise useability.

Advantage of 1: prevent user not to be surprised that nothing comes back on screen

Advantage of 2: I do not have to open TM on screen to change mode, by rightclicking the TM icon and selecting there.
Of course this way, do not open the windows, as my idea is, this shall only change the mode without opening the TM instances on screen. There might be situations where you want to save the work, having to close them directly again after mode change.

this looks good...  please let me know...

does the "more than 8 channels" mean its now possible to have 24 inputs without needing to select bank up or down to navigate ?

also does the OSC remote function mean you can limit one person using touchOSC to only change their own personal monitoring mix without affecting anyone elses submix ? if this is correct and works alongside 24 channels without changing banks then that is fantastic update...

I really don't see how my post can be interpreted differently than that. Yes, it is a phantastic update. For some.

Re: New TotalMix FX 1.30 beta 1 available for download

the first question was asked because I havent touched OSC for years and wasn't sure if I remembered the limitations properly.. you would have made more sense if you had written "support for more than 8 channels per bank".

the submix question was asking if by using the word "assigned" you mean can be locked and unable to be changed or just set as default.

so there you go, this is how your post is able to be interpreted differently..

Re: New TotalMix FX 1.30 beta 1 available for download

Hi Matthias.  I am not seeing the new options you wrote about.  I checked the version and it is showing 1.22.  I tried twice assuming I made a mistake the first time.  The zip file itself is named correctly, but it looks like someone packaged the wrong version.

Re: New TotalMix FX 1.30 beta 1 available for download

Exit TM which starts automatically on boot. Then unpack archive and doubleclick the .exe file. Worked for me.

Re: New TotalMix FX 1.30 beta 1 available for download

Thanks Ramses, that was it.

Confirming there is an option to lock each OSC remote to a specific submix (per ebulb's question).  I have wanted this feature for a long time, thanks RME!

hello,
I've been testing the TM FX 1.30 beta 1 and honestly I don't understand what's the actual use for DAW layout mode...

To get TM FX out of the way. Mostly for beginners, and people who do everything within the DAW (including phones monitoring and such).

Re: New TotalMix FX 1.30 beta 1 available for download

As I am a brand new user and not anywhere near up to speed with TotalMix FX, this new DAW mode is sounding right up my alley.  As a user who does 100% of everything in the DAW and monitors and sums through my Dangerous D-Box, I really don't need all the clutter and fuss that TotalMix FX is offering and it is honestly causing me a lot of issues and headaches, in trying to get it figured it out, as the routing is unnecessary for my needs.  I am looking very forward to the full release version of this, as I would rather not play with a beta when I am so fresh to this, as it is.  I don't need any additional variables to deal with.

Though I haven't tried this myself, from what I am reading of ramses post, it seems you can only change to and from this DAW mode, by opening TMFX on screen and doing it this way?  I definitely agree with this idea on having a right click context menu entry to do this from the taskbar icon itself.  Right clicking and being able to select to and from this new DAW mode, would be a real treat, instead of always having to open the full GUI on screen, which is unnecessary for a simple mode toggle.  There is already right click context menu entries on the taskbar icon for  Workspace Quick Select and New TotalMix Window, so another entry to toggle back and forth from DAW mode, to full mode, shouldn't be too much to ask I hope.

Is there an ETA on when this new TotalMix FX version is to be fully available?  Will there will another firmware update to go along with it?

Thanks for what is seeming like a great update.  It appears I bought my 802 at just the right time!

Re: New TotalMix FX 1.30 beta 1 available for download

There is no need to ever change between them. You either need the advanced routing or not. Also the change is no simple gui update but resets the whole routing, so this is another reason for not changing between them all the time.

You can use beta 1 as this will be the release version.

Thanks for clearing this up, as I am ignorant on the whole thing, only having my first RME product for less than a week now.

Thanks for being so confident in beta 1 as being the release version as well.  I am accustomed to beta's not going directly to release, but instead, being preceded by RC, or release candidates before the full release takes place, so I didn't put much faith into this, as it was listed as beta 1, meaning first release out of alpha and hence immature and possibly unstable.

Is this going to be released as is to the public and if so, when exactly?  I am just wondering if there will be full drivers and possibly a firmware update to go along with it, that may make it worthwhile to just wait and do everything at once, when the full release is made public, especially since other posters are mentioning issues of stopping this to start that, overwriting this, having older versions being reverted to and newest version not taking priority etc.  I doubt all this will be the case with the full release on the main page.

Thanks though, I appreciate your time in all this.

Re: New TotalMix FX 1.30 beta 1 available for download

I went ahead and tried out 1.30b1, as per your recommendation Matthias and I am very impressed.  Initially, I was afraid I was going to have to install some new package and play around with keeping the new version separate from the old version, until I was ready to commit, but in reading comments from previous beta releases, I got it all sorted and had 1.30 up and running without issue.  The only thing I was interested in trying out, was the DAW mode, so I went ahead and enabled that from the get go, changing nothing else.  Instant gratification.  A project I had setup, where I wanted the 8 analog outputs from my 802 to go into the D-Box and back out of the D-Box into analog in 1/2, plus monitoring via the AES connection, all worked first time around.  No messy routing configurations, no workspace management to worry about, it just worked.  You said it was going to be a 1:1 routing configuration and this was the real test to see and I am very pleased with this.  I am surprised there was no mode like this from the get go of TotalMix, but I seem to have bought my 802 at the perfect time, as a week later, this mode is now available and is going to be the exclusive mode I use from now on.  With confidence, I now know that everything is setup and working as should and I don't have to second guess any routing, or configuration settings in TotalMix, as there is none to worry about.  It is time to start enjoying my new interface and making some music, instead of troubleshooting!

Great job and I look forward to all future driver/firmware and TMFX updates from you guys!

Re: New TotalMix FX 1.30 beta 1 available for download

Brilliant.  Even as someone who utilizes TMFX's advanced routing, I can see a use for this mode myself sometimes.  And hopefully it will cut down on the amount of RTFM support RME has to provide.

Re: New TotalMix FX 1.30 beta 1 available for download

Although I must say, it seems to have "cleansed" my snapshots.  On Going back to v1.22 normal mode, my snapshots are not recalling their routings (though I did not overwrite them in beta 1).  Anybody else noticed this?

Snapshots are temporary unless you save them all as Workspace. Try multiple Undo do get back the older ones.
