Topic: General MADI Question

I don't know much about MADI but I'm wondering if I can replace my analogue snake with MADI.

I was thinking that if I swapped my (FOH) UFX for a UFX+, I could have 2, 3 or 4 XTCs on stage and connected by MADI.  I assume that I just need connect them in a simple chain.  If this is correct then my question is - how do I get 8 analogue outputs on stage as well?

Is it possible to:

Put another UFX+ on stage and use its outputs (and maybe also use it for the monitor mix!)?
or
Use the headphone outputs on the XTCs and balance them with some kind of transformer?

Is this just dreaming?

Thanks
Richard

Re: General MADI Question

A/D and D/A, 8 analog channels, 4xAES, etc ....

MADI version is available or upgrade later.

Or this with MADI:
D/A either 16 or 32 channels: http://www.rme-audio.de/en/products/m32da.php
A/D either 16 or 32 channels: http://www.rme-audio.de/en/products/m32ad.php

Re: General MADI Question

Thanks Ramses,

Your first option looks good but a bit expensive when you add in the MADI card. The second option is also good but I don't really want more than 8 analogue outputs (it's also a 2u box - big and heavy).

I like the idea of a second UFX+ (with the extra 12 analogue inputs as well).  But can you have 2 UFX+s on the same MADI network?

Re: General MADI Question

Use the headphone outs of the XTC. Send mono to it and flip the phase on one channel. Then you get a balanced out.

Re: General MADI Question

If you get UFX+ you can use your existing UFX as DA by connecting ADAT out from XTC to UFX ADAT in.
This way you get 8 balanced analog outputs, 2 with XLR and 6 with balanced plug.

Re: General MADI Question

Thanks everyone for some really creative ideas. It's got me thinking about different ways of doing things. A friend of mine even offered to build me an 8ch 1u rack transformer. It's a shame there isn't a way to MADIfy a UFX big_smile

What a great idea (thanks Jayzteroid) to use my existing UFX as a converter. Maybe it could even send 8 of it's inputs to the XTC over ADAT? This could be a solution.

Thanks again everyone.

Re: General MADI Question

Yes it can since XTC has ADAT in.
