Topic: Help! (I'm sure there's an easy solution)

I'll admit right off the bat, TotalMix has always been a conundrum for me, and try as I might, I have trouble understanding it fully.

Regardless, here's my ignorance in full display: I just added an Audient 880 to my Babyface rig, and so far it's been a breeze. Just now I set up two additional mics and looped a guitar part to check if my cables were working, levels, etc. I can see all four microphones are working, and muted inputs 1 and 2. I can hear the mics used on ADAT 3 & 4..... perfect!

However, I must have some output setting wrong, because when I open Digital Performer, I get a signal from inputs 1 & 2, but not ADAT 3 & 4. I've run through every available input option in DP, but still get nothing. I'm guessing/hoping the answer is so simple that I'll be embarrassed for asking!

If you see the inputs in totalmix, the rme part is ready! Totalmix doesn't send audio to your DAW. The daw records from the asio inputs. They need to be set up in DP. probably in something called audio setup/input channels. Then you can set the input for the track you want to record to adat3 or whatever.

What does totalmix do then? It mixes hardware inputs and software playback to your hardware outputs. That's all

Thanks for that simple description. I suppose you could add on the end, 'and with 'loopback' selected in the hardware outputs section, presents the signal at the hardware outputs back to the available software to be recorded in the same or a different application'.....Yes?

Re: Help! (I'm sure there's an easy solution)

Yes! Well, not here, older PCI HDSP's don't have software loopback:-(

I thought Total Mix was just for the later interfaces......I had the ADAT Hammerfall cards back in 2002. Does it work with those?

Re: Help! (I'm sure there's an easy solution)

All hammerfall DSP. Both PCI and PCIe. The DSP part is the onboard mixer. But there are older hammerfalls which also don't have 64 bit drivers.
