Topic: UFX + doesn't fit in the rack

Hi,
Got the ufx + today, and that make my day.
I was ready to fight every kind of issue, but not the fact I cannot put the unit on my rack because.
I took some measurement, but the problem is cleary the ears that are too thick. The total lenght is 43.7 mm, but the measure of my rack ( and should be standard i suppose) it's 43.5 mm.
What I should do? I may make the ears thinner with a millstone, but I don t know if it could be a problem with the warranty if this unit will ever have any problem...
Thank you for your attention.
Best,

If the unit doesn't fit then loose the screws of the upper and lower unit, move them up and down, and voilà, space enough.

I think you misunderstood the problem (my fault because of the poor explanation). I wrote 43.5 mm but obviously is 43.5 cm . My bad..
This is the wrong measure

Thank you for the fast reply btw

Re: UFX + doesn't fit in the rack

And as your photo shows the '43.5 cm' is wrong as well. My rack has an inner width of 45.6 cm, and the UFX+ has 44.7 cm, so fits perfectly.

Re: UFX + doesn't fit in the rack

To be honest it's probably even less then 44.7.... but 45.6 it's a lot.... almost the distance from hole (center) to hole.
By the way, trying to solve the issue, I could work on your rack ears to gain these 2 mm I need...but it could be a problem if my ufx+ would have any problem and need a replacement, right?

Re: UFX + doesn't fit in the rack

No, because the rack ears can be removed anytime. But your rack is not ok. Typical hole distance from left to right is 46.6 cm:

----------
The posts have holes in them at regular intervals, with both posts matching, so that each hole is part of a horizontal pair with a center-to-center distance of 18.312 inches (465.12 mm)

Re: UFX + doesn't fit in the rack

Any chance this is a rack from a Hifi brand out of the seventies or eighties?

I know Philips, AKAI, Pioneer and a few others used to make racks that looked like standard 19", but the hole spacing is different. And sometimes even the width isn't standard.

Re: UFX + doesn't fit in the rack

Am using a standard Thomann Rack with the UFX and have absolutely no issues.

It must be your rack as MC has mentioned.

Re: UFX + doesn't fit in the rack

I'm having the same issue, I just received thomann rack case for my ff802 and it doesn't fit. My other gear fits but not the Rme. The rack ears are a couple of mm to big. Pain in the behind.

What is the hole distance of your rack ? My Thomann Rack has 46,6 or 46,7 cm.
Inner distance 45.1 cm.

Re: UFX + doesn't fit in the rack

I assumed that all 19" rack equipment were of the same specs.
The hole distance is  just barely 44.5cm

Thanks I read thread, that's why I posted here rather than start new thread.
So you are saying that my rack is wrong or is not the standard size?
I think the problem is the rack ears are not built into the  ff802 like my other equipment.

Re: UFX + doesn't fit in the rack

Just wanted to confirm that the UFX+ does not fit very well into a standard 19" rackspace. It's simply a few millimeters too wide...

No, your rack is too narrow.

See http://www.intel.com/content/dam/suppor … ide_24.pdf page 8 for an easy graphic about the
required dimensions.

Or: https://www.server-racks.com/eia-310.html

With the UFX+ at 44.7cm width including rack mount brackets, it's well within the 45cm allowance.

You may very well be right about those official rack dimensions (the UFX+ measurements you mention are correct), but none the less, several people have experienced that the unit does in fact not fit into their particular rack, so obviously a lot of rack manufacturers out there don't comply with those measurements. What made me jump to the (perhaps a bit hasty) conclusion is the fact that every other rackmounted piece of equipment I own fits within that very same rack, so even though the interface is well within the official dimensions, it is still a bit wider than a wide selection of similarly constructed products.

Sorry to hear that ... but TBH wouldn't it be the proper way to contact the manufacturer which is not compliant to standards than to complain here in this forum ? Would make IMHO more sense.

Re: UFX + doesn't fit in the rack

It can be frustrating but in this case it's some rack makers who are 'out of spec'.

IEC, DIN and EIA all spec the 'rack opening' at a minimum of 45 cm:

"The opening in the rack is specified as a minimum of 17.72″ (450mm)."

http://www.teamsilverback.com/knowledge … standards/

"19" rack equipment dimensional data
As specified by BS5954 (1980) and IEC 297 (1975:
Rack opening width:    450mm"
