Topic: ADAT Crackles in Fireface 800

Hello,

I have an issue with my RME FF800. I have two such units, this one in the image below works as a master and sends Wordclock to the second one which syncs perfectly. However with no ADAT cables connected whatsoever, I get crackles on channels ADAT 5/6 as can be seen from the image that I have attached.

On the FF800 settings to the left, under <Preferred Sync Ref / Input Status", the ADAT2 changes from "Lock" to "No Lock" erratically.

Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Why is SPDIF IN set to ADAT2? You use ADAT or SPDIF?

I use ADAT, but it doesn't make any difference if I set it to Coaxial. Also in this case there are not ADAT cables connected.

But the rear TOSLINK is open and some light shines on it...

Interesting...  MC, do you believe there is enough stray 650 nm (red) light entering the TOSLINK connector to cause spurious DA signals?  What would be the mechanism to cause signals only on ADAT channel 5?

Setting this to Coaxial eliminated the problem completely. I do think it's a bug though, because as I mentioned there is nothing connected to the ADAT inputs or outputs.
